Default WW IV... Are you ready?

You guys and gals should do a search looking for information on the new war (World War IV). I think that you will find some interesting stuff.
YOU SHOULD BE NERVOUS
Just to clarify, WW III was the Cold War and our neo-conservative's have gotten their way and whether or not you believe that we are in a world war, just do your home work.

Be prepared for your life to change because it is happening right before your eyes.

Unfortunately Woolsey is, of course, correct. What is puzzling is that so many seem to think World War IV is optional...that it hasn't been underway since 1979...that we could just ignore the attacks and they'll stop.

Hate to split hairs with ya speyfly, but the cold war was not world war 3.It was more like a standoff.

They are not my words. This is coming out of Washington DC so you might want to take it up with the CIA or the White House. Just the same, this will be a very long war and I would be willing to bet that we will see the draft come back.

Actually, they were your words. You posted them. I understand it was because you read it somewhere...but to then repeat those words, they become your own now. Sorry.

Okay, so if we are in another world war, what do you suggest we do about it? Run? Hide? Bring all our troops home and seal our borders against new comers? What???? Many say it's because of the way we have dealt with other countries that have caused the attacks on us. When did we drive a loaded civilian air craft into one of their civilian buildings? When did we incite radicle young people to strap on explosives and walk into crowded restaurants, stores or buses? Some say it's because of our political support for Israel that has brought on these attacks. Why? We have supported the peaceful existence of another country and so we are now evil? That fact is that there are radical religious fundamentalist that cannot give to their people what they need and so they must attack the most sucessful country in history. So if we are in another world war, who's fault is it? And what do we do about it?

ATC, I dont know for sure, but I'd bet our hands aren't quite that clean. Who knows.

Either way...its not WWIV. Mainly cuz WWIII comes before WWIV, and we haven't had a WWIII.

There were several periods of active conflict between the US and USSR and their surrogates...Korean War, Vietnam War, plus other smaller conflicts...and in the end, we won. The USSR is just a memory. You call that a standoff?

Cold War was not a world war. No shots fired, no incursions....just a stand-off over the nukes. In the end, it all worked out. To call it WWIII would be silly, IMO.

ATC, you have to at least consider what our Arabic enemies are saying.

They hate us because of the conflict in Palestine ... we have chosen sides in that conflict and we support the underdog ... Israel. We do this by sending money, troops, guns planes and bombs. We look the other way while they oppress the Palestinians.

This is the generic Arab point of view. We have done some things as a country to cause this viewpoint to be widely held in the middle east.

Most of the hateful rhetoric, the terrorism and the islamic religious Fatahs and Jihads are focused on us as a people because of this widespread perception of us as modern day 'crusaders' and 'infidels' in that culture.

There were something like 33,000 Americans killed in Korea...and millions of Koreans. Another 58,000 Americans killed in Vietnam...and millions of Vietnamese. The Berlin Wall. The 1956 Hungarian revolt. Numerous other conflicts i.e. Cuba, Grenada, Panama, Greece, etc. etc. All part of an overall struggle between Communism and Democracy...a truly epic event lasting 43 years. Call it what you want...but many historians consider the Cold War to have been WW III. And, the war against radical Islamic terrorism will be world-wide and very likely to turn out being properly considered as WW IV. IMHO.

I'm pretty sure there isnt a single text book talking about "WWIII". And "some" historians...like who?

Good lord...why are we even bickering about this? I really dont give a flying flip what you want to call it. Who cares?!?!?!??! Lets just bring the boys (and girls) home quickly and get to work mending fences around the world.

Yea it can, but it won't. It will be called a rout.

Even though some historians might consider the above WWIII & WWIV, I would not. Neither even remotely compares to WW's of the past. This is not WWIV specfly so you can crawl out of your bomb shelter now. It is a war with terrorist and a few terrorist governments, i.e. Iraq and Afghanistan. Now if the mid East governments and their military's would have jumped in instead of some of their zealots, I might have considered it a WW.

True,

I very much wish it were true that the end is in sight, win, lose or draw.

My fear is that this is just the beginnning. There is already talk of moving this to other countries.

Remember, VP Cheney stated that we may well be at war for the rest of our lives. I think that is a real, albeit frightening, possibility.

DBD, I'm not the one that is so paranoid that I want to preemptively strike other countries for what they might do in the future. That be the ones that support this war and this administrations. All the what if’s and maybes show just how paranoid some folks are. As for me, I’m just watching it all happen wondering how can people be so scared that they would condone preemptive wars. We, this country no longer has the moral high ground so we have become just another bully on the block and you know what happens to bullies don’t you? Just in case you don’t, they get their butt kicked eventually.
