Why would UPS uniforms be foresale on ebay to begin with?

Whatever story may be lurking behind these recently-sold UPS uniforms remains murky. No warning about "missing" UPS uniforms appears on the UPS web site, and when we called UPS they told us knew nothing about the rumor. Yet given the hundreds of inquiries we've received on this topic, how could UPS not have heard about it yet? The TV news report linked above reported that as recently as February 27 a UPS spokesperson maintained "the company had no idea you could buy the uniforms online," but an item appearing in the Louisville Courier-Journal a few days later quoted a different UPS spokesman as saying "Call it urban legend or call it hoax, there's nothing to it."

Actually there was a news story the other night where people were selling UPS uniforms on eBay. There were insinuations in that news story as well, and eBay agreed to pull all the UPS uniform auctions from then on.
