Boat Stolen
Just recently we had a Jetscraft 1625 stolen from our top show section. This aluminum boat was outfitted with 50hp merc. Full canvas with a blue two tone paint. It's very disturbing hearing these theives having a field day on everyone. I can only hope with the activity on the rise that someone (police) catch on. In the last 3 years it seems these types of crimes are on the rise. We as sport fisherman need to be looking out for one another more carefully. Have had several calls lately for replacement kickers. A word to the wise start locking down your motors. Weight does not seem to be a problem for these idiots. Happy fishing

Re: Boat Stolen
WOW! That sucks...
Sorry to hear about that. You do have VIN #'s, etc. don't you? Hard for them to get it registered/licensed without the VIN, and when it gets ran, it should come up "12-24"... STOLEN!
Hope it makes it back soon...

Re: Boat Stolen
THH, sorry to hear of your loss.
Where was this boat stolen from? Will your homeoweners insurance cover it? I know that is little comfort since you end up paying higher premiums, but get most of the value of the boat. I would be inconsolable if my boat were ripped off. 2 years ago my old Bridgestone MB5 mtn bike was stolen from my garage. I loved that bike, was on like my 5th chain I had ridden it so much. Realy felt like I had been violated.
People that do this sort of thing are only digging their own little pit of hell a bit deeper with each repeat performance.

Re: Boat Stolen
I went on a Moose hunting trip up to British Columbia a few years ago and the guides up there were telling me that there is a big buisness in stolen boats from the U.S. they only need to get across the border and they are leagal to register there. No papers needed! Not sure if its that way for large boats but for boats under 20' it is. I have taken a boat across the border 2 times fishing and never have I had them check for documentation on the boat, so I could see how easy it would be to take a stolen boat up. Just thoughts on where some of these may end up.

Re: Boat Stolen
I also had a piece of crap outboard stolen years ago. I spent more time working on it than fishing with it.
Whoever stole it deserved it.

Re: Boat Stolen
No fear of the consequences. As you learn while raising kids, degrees of punishment sometimes need to be escalated to get the parents' point to sink in. I found that cash and freedom deprivation were both very effective "point makers" with our teenagers. Repeatedly convicted theives, drunk drivers, meth brewers, and (the list goes on) could easily be fined heavily enough so they just barely have enough left for a daily meal or two. No cash remaining for gasoline might put a damper on such things. Just an idea.

I had my kicker stolen last fall. I was lucky enough to recover it but had $400 damage from being dropped.

i know the problem God said it through King Solomon many years ago and the Bible is still true "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the hearts of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil".

Re: Boat Stolen
The main reason there is so many thieves now is, Law enforcment doesnt care about property crimes. and is a low life thief does get caught, Nothing will happen to him. Until the cops get off thier lazy butts and start hammering these guys or they make it legal to kill thieves it just going to get worse. They now have free riegn to steal what ever they want.

Re: Boat Stolen
I totally agree. The police either are to busy with other related crimes or they simply don't care. What bothers me mostly is that we know these boat/car's w/ trailer theft or damage is on such a sharp rise year after year nothing seems to change, and these idiot's know this. I can't wait for the day I catch one of these idiot's. Seems right now I have a better chance of catching one of these idiot's rather than our prized nooks. I'm sure when I do catch one of these idot's (native or not) he/she will be properly intoduced to the law. With much needed dental work to be done

Re: Boat Stolen
Yeah that's the reason.. lazy cops.
Got a problem? blame a public employee, they're convenient.
Why is petty crime up in Oregon while it is down nationally?
Try budget cuts to law enforcement and the subsequent release from county lockup of hundreds of low priority criminals (read those who do property crimes)
Try these lovelies out for a little fun.... upstanding citizens

Re: Boat Stolen
I wonder if it has anything to do with the 10Hp limit for kids. Until we restore funding to the court system there is no incentive for cops to deal with crimes like this. The criminal is home before the cop. Close all the meth labs and watch theft go down markedly. I too had my kicker stolen years ago in my driveway and the worst part was that I didn't realize it until I launched...tough to troll with a 115. Maybe painting the engine pink would be as good as a lock.

Re: Boat Stolen
There are plenty of cops and plenty of money. Just too many ridiculous, petty laws on the books for the amount of working cops to enforce. All kids under 15 must wear helmets when riding bikes? Next time you see a cop talking to a kid about not wearing their helmet, look at the next police report. 90% of the time a property crime will have been committed at the same time the kid is getting his ear twisted. Try making sense of the new regs for under 18 year old drivers. How can a cop patrol our neighborhoods when they are trying to look in every vehicle to determine how many under age passengers are in the vehicle with a young driver or if an under age driver is driving after sunset!! Oh, I know these are all Warm and Fuzzy laws but dont complain when serious crimes are committed and there are not enough cops to respond. Like the rest of us a cop can only be one place at a time.

Re: Boat Stolen
With the current and increasingly public policy of catch and release on criminals without any real punishment, prehaps we need to revert back to the way our forefathers handled thieves... Either public flogging or the old wooden yokes around the neck for a few days in the public square.
When do the silent majority get justice????
Too much tax money going to programs that are not basic to the protection of what the majority want...police, fire and schools. These should be where our tax money has priority.
Just my .02.

Re: Boat Stolen
I agree Gizmo Man. Raising tax and fee collections doesn't help, as evidenced by the last 25 years of ballooning government budgets, yet ever-increasing whining by those gratuitous spenders. It costs very little to seize cash and assets of repeat offenders. Proceeds could be used to reimburse victims, or to build four level wooden bunkbeds in prison cells (those mattresses are such a waste of space!) So much for prison overcrowding.
