Default catfishing huntington/farewell bend area

I have this week off and am thinking of going over there for catfish, anything happening? will be fishing from the bank. have no clue other than crappie or according to ODFW website "mormon crickets'? (how are these rigged up and where can they be found) for bait...does shrimp nitecrawler cocktail work there? what size line /weight/leader length/hooks do I need? would it be worth the trip? I NEED to load up but will wait if I need to. usually I fish the john day, went to the narrows yesterday the worst I have ever seen on a day that I should have brought home at least 15 caught not one!!!

I went over there years ago with my grandparents. Fished shelled crawdad tails and caught em like mad! Don't think they are line shy so you can probably throw on some 20lb mono and a 1/0 or 2/0 hook and be good to go. The fish in there get pretty good sized so ya shouldn't be disapointed!

I have fished the Farwell Bend area for years, and have found that even worms are hard to beat. I have used the Mormon Crickets, and you can buy these at Maria's in Hunington, or the truck stop at Farwell Bend. I put these on a 1/0 treble hook, with a worm. I know a real good bait to use is crappie guts, or cut bait...stink bait. shrimp, chicken livers..Mr. Catfish is not to picky...good luck

I was there last week and the crappie fishing has slowed down to about 5 fish/hour, And I caught a couple catfish on crappie jigs, but I didn't really try much for the cats, so I can't say how the catfishing specifically was.
