Great stretch of water. Watch out for the wind. Good places to fish:

Up by the JD dam on the washington side and the island/eddy is good, but there are some dangerous rocks mid river above the island.

The stretch on the Oregon side from the Rufus ramp downstream a mile or so.

Along the wash. side from where the rocks change to the peach orchards above Maryhill ramp.

Biggs bridge mid channel downstream a mile or so.

All good areas. Good luk and give us a report.

Fishing can be a bit tough in the wind.

Don't shout turn the cap's off.
Thanks

I live in the Gorge and you need to find a weather report before you go, the wind can be really bad. Try Weather Bug or Odot website for wind speeds and forcasts. Good Luck

Is there any place around rufus with freezer space for rent. If i do catch a few walleye would like to bring a couple home for my dad to try and also my boss does taxidermy and wants to try to mount a bass ( provided i get one large enough).
Going to be up there fri-sun and only be 4 or 5 fish max.

Upstream from the mouth of the John Day on the Oregon side is what we call the rock pile. The bottom is like a roller coaster with lots of structure, watch out as it can get shallow. Lots of bass usually just figure out the depth they are liking and have fun. Also watch out for all the gill nets, hard on props and stuff.
