Default "Oh CRUD!" How?

Theft.
Theft.
Theft.
I came home this afternoon to see what? My ball hitch & custom trailer-hitch shaft had been swiped. Yup. Stolen. Oh, yeah, "this isn't the place, you say. Take it to 'life in general"...No, dang it. My old unit (323rd) & good friends are "lodged" somewhere between the Tigris & Bahgdad. This time without me.
AND...I get a phone call from citibank 1 hour ago. {verbatim} There are "High dollar purchases being made to your VISA account in the El Paso TX, Houston TX, beaverton OR areas in the last 2 hours."
OH CRUD!!! What? yup. gets better. $375.00 from Lloyd center 'athletic footwear company' , $875 from Gateway computers, $200 lunch in NE pdx, gas fill ups in various NE stations from 35.00 (shell) 58.88 (texaco) 38.00 (same texaco 20 minutes later) 52.00 (cheveron) ALL in 3 hours!!!
another 499.99 @ Gateway computers, $375 online catalog in Houston TX, $81.99 another "athletic apparel store in NE portland....
WHY? DANG!
Can today get any better?
So, I've cancelled all CCards, Bank accounts, biz accounts, try to not get hosed. Wife cries. oh crap...All plans for week have changed. DMV. Home owner. Dad.
SSN...Oh, did anything have my SSN? Am I now one of the many growing list of "Identity theft" victims???
Oh crud.
oh crud.
oh crud.
Is it too late to re-enlist @ 34?
Please, if anyone knows of a friend or neighbor who just bought all his "buddies" gas & a bunch of stereo & electronic gear, let me know. LET ME KNOW!

Yep had one of those days. some (Silly Billy) had got my mail out of my box gotahold of my business checks and printed new ones with his name as a dba. bought 11000.00 in two days. They finnaly called to verify a check and the jig was up. He was buying 3800 in furniture. He told them he would be back the next day to pick it up. He showed up the next day in a stolen uhaul. The store called the cops and he was arrested. My bank did give the money back but it took them 45 days. I also had to buy and install a fort knox mail box close my business account and reopen another. I feel for you brother. :depressed: :depressed:

Had a debit card stolen out of our luggage in Circus-Circus in Las Vegas a couple of years ago. I had forgotten it was even in there. When we got home and I went to the bank and made a deposit, my balance was $117. I had just deposited a $650 check. That sure didn't compute!! I asked how that could be, and the nice bank teller asked if I had been to Vegas lately and I said yes, we just got back a couple of days ago. She said all of the charges had been made the last couple of days in Vegas when we were home. They immediately canceled the card. The scums had used our card all over the strip and beyond to the tune of $2600. Their first stop was at an ATM at The Riviera right across the street. They bought groceries at Albertsons, furniture at Sears Home store, gas at gas stations, ate at Tony Roma's, got cash, you name it, they did it!! All this, without the pin#! According to Las Vegas Metro P.D. this is a very prevalent crime. Maids at hotels go through peoples belongings and take anything like credit or debit cards and pass them on to others who use them and also pass them on, etc. We were credited back the total amount. Needless to say, I no longer have a debit card. We did get some comps from Circus-Circus for all of the crap we had to go through because of their hired help.

Anytime you use a credit or debit card check the receipt. Some have your entire card number and expiration date on them.

Someone once inadvertently parked his Corvette in our parking lot at the airport. I put a note on the car addressed to him using his full name since he left a gas receipt on his console with his full name, full card number and expiration date clearly visible.

Make sure those receipts are destroyed and let the establishment know that you are not happy to have the info printed on the receipt.

This is why anything, I do mean anything that comes to us with our name on it that is not being saved in our records is shredded. Even the cover page of catalogs and their order forms. We upgraded to a heavy duty cross shredder. Once the bag of shredded stuff gets near full we toss them a bit and then burn them. Sure it may be a little hassle to remember to remove all the info off of every thing but it is worth the peace of mind.

The neighbor woman was all excited last year just before Xmas....this gal she works with supposedly had a good friend whose husband supposedly was asst. manager at Meier&Frank...and he supposedly could buy anything in the store at 50% discount....just go to M&F the friend said, pick out what you want, write down item #, color & sizes, etc., give her the list and her husband would pick the goods up on his "open" account (he needed to be paid back in cash, ASAP). The neighbor lady was cautioned not to tell anyone at M&F what was going on so as not to spoil the "good deal" the asst. mgr. had because of his job.

I told the neighbor lady that this sounds like a stolen credit card scam....a way to get money w/o having the pin #. She said she didn't believe me and I think she went ahead got some M&F stuff at "special 50% discount" thru her friend.

A few weeks later while I was nextdoor I met the girlfriend and her husband who had stopped by for a visit....it was obvious after just a minute or two that these people were felons....members of the criminal class....wise guys....always looking for a scam....and since my neighbors seem to think this is OK, I have stopped going over there....who knows, they might rip me off next. If I had more info I'd call the cops....but don't know these "felon's" last name or where they live, etc....and really don't "know" for sure what the deal is....although I am very suspicious of people like that.
