Default A fishing buddy hides his cross

One of my closets friends hides his cross when we are fishing.

I thought he was wrong when he said, people treated him different in Oregon ( especially when in the the rual areas) when they saw his cross.

I said
People in Oregon would never treat people different if they saw his gold cross. We started this conversation over a year ago. We set out to test people then.

Guess what I was proved wrong, people did treat him different when we were in tilamook, bend and rosegurg when we were getting things at stores and such to fish with.

This last week
We were comfronted with a good ole boy ( about 30 ) who said he it was the Jews fault we were fighting in the middle east, when he noticed Jon was wearing a Cross of David.

This gent had an ifish.net round sticker on his truck.

What say you folks? I know some of you think that is doo doo but I have a witness.

I'm not sure what the cross of david is, but when I wear the Cape of Degner I often get strange looks from fellow Oregonians.

I used to work with a guy who wore a Star of David full time. Weird thing was that he wasn't Jewish, and he was Hispanic to boot.
Nobody that I was aware of ever gave him any crap about it.
I have a hard time believing that a perfect stranger would make an anti-Semitic remark like that without at least a slight provocation. Unless he was drunk.

I not only believe it, I've heard the comments. Sad.

Anyone who would make a anti sematic coment is a disgrace. It goes for racist or sexist or any other derogatory coments that get made to people. It is plain ignorance. To be little someone because of religion, skin color, gender or sexual preference is not worth listening to. People may not agree with others views but what right do they have to force thier own on someone else? The world would be a much better place if we all could respect others rights to be who they are.

I think you friend should wear his Star with pride and ignore the comments.

Well said, FireDog.

I just watched an interview with an F16 fighter pilot:
who was a woman
who was a black woman
who gives her God the credit for all she does
who prays before every mission
who probably has more grit and intelligence in her toenails than I have in my whole lineage
and who had just neutralized an enemy force firing on our guys

It was exhilerating to know that I live in a country where a light like that can shine.

You tell your buddy there's a whole bunch of us out there that will take him just like he is - Star and all. He's welcome in my boat any time. It's the American way.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">It all depends on sample size...I mean, there are bad apples in any group of people. I've spent time in and among "rural" people in other parts of the USA, i.e. Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas, upstate (downeast?) Maine, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, etc. Oregonians are basically no different...if anything, are "better"...than the rural folk in those other areas.
