Political Flotilla
Okay, so not everybody is back yet, but I'll start. Not a bad fishing day, kind of a sucky catching day. The company was excellent and the weather spring-like. Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes. The score when we left was one non-salmonid (I'll let the guilty party fess up). Although this WAS first fish even if it didn't have an adipose fin (does that mean it was legal to keep?). One drive-by. One two seconds on, long-line release that was caused by my tuff-line, which wasn't. Thought it was a knot maybe, but I only reeled in half the line I had out. :depressed: Anyway, here are some pics:
Team Southwest with a shy Captain.
1/3 of Team Mensa with Team Stealth being stealthy behind them.
No, that is not an anchor rope in the prop. Why would you even ask such a thing? They are simply sounding from the stern with the anchor because the depth finder wasn't working.

Final results:
We came out of it with two drive-by's, but not there long enough to pick up the rods. We saw one salmon netted all day, and two caught by Herschel.
The only fish caught on the floatilla?
Way to go, ********* Tom!
Oh, and this is what we had:
mmmmmmmmmmmmm....baaaconnnn.

Re: Political Flotilla
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,
Gots to admit it was a pretty slow day in the catching department. While you all were eating those fine cullinary cornary clotting breakfasts and I was eating cold tuna on buttermilk, ********* Tom was the ONLY one to reel in a fish today?
I think the fish were as confused as everyone else! GSA was on the left? TFG was not wearing pumps and the blue dress was well hidden by the rain gear and as much as STG tried to Rule, the only for sure no doubt about it fish today was crackered by her at 50 yards!
It seems that a true convergence of diverse political views could do nothing to convince the salmon that one side of the debate was worthy. At least not worthy enough to chomp on a lure!
Nice time, but next time we ain't picking the Hilton's home turf when the only fish being mastered were by Herschel! Trout farm, anyone?...

Re: Political Flotilla
Well a $4.oo fish is better then nothing. Lets see 1st fish, largest fish, most fish, I win.
Thanks for the trip Mr. Hogmaster. If you had spent as much time fishing as untangling your line you might have caught one too.

Re: Political Flotilla
The springers once again proved to be "wonderfully difficult"....but the fishing was great as was the company. Spent a fun day with Skein & Keta along with the other ifishers...STG Rule & spouse, SilverHilton, TFG, BOedy, Hogmaster & Co., etc. (was that 1pump with the fouled prop?).
Didn't catch any fish but later I enjoyed a nice baked steelhead dinner with family at my mother's house in Longview. She caught her fish at Safeway  . Apparently, she knew better than to rely on me to bring home the chinook, I guess  .
Anyhow, had a wonderful time on the river today and it was fun to see and talk to some ifishers in person.

Re: Political Flotilla
While not 'officially' part of the Flotilla, it turns out I was only about 200 yards below you guys.
I was looking for you on my way down from Kalama, and only saw one teal NR, but it had a dark gray top and left shortly after I went by. That was around 730am.
I thought I saw you guys on my way back to the ramp at 230ish, but didn't see any ifish stickers?
After seeing the above pics, I realize it was you guys. SH, and whoever was inside of him with the long 'bimini' looking top.
We ended up getting two, one hatchery and one nate. Saw about 7 others caught as well.
SH...as it turns out we were the outside boat in that line when we got there and were the only ones to get into fish, until we hooked out second. After that we became the inside boat. (we are trend setters apparently)
The boat that moved just to our outside, picked up 3 in 45 minutes after moving.

Re: Political Flotilla
I had a great day on the water, fish or no fish! The highlight of the day was the never ending volly of wit exchanged between Silver Hilton and Hogmaster. The rest of us tried to provide our .02, but in a battle of wit, we were only half prepared. I think we all laughed our rears off the whole day at each other. ********* Tom seemed to get great personal pleasure out of watching Hog and I undo the "tangle from hell", but he forgot that he taught us that lesson first thing in the morning...Tom, he who laughs last...well, you'll get yours!  (I think he forgot he was fishing in PRANKMASTERS boat)
The smell of 10 pounds of bacon cooking between STR's and SH's boats was a bit of unfair psychological warfare that they seemed to enjoy. Hogmaster defended his healthy Tuna Sandwich to the bitter end. Dr. Atkins has the Geek under his powers and I think geek personally ate 8 of that 10 lbs of bacon!
All in all, it was a great day on the water with some fun ifishers. Thanks for the laughs!

Re: Political Flotilla
So Lured in confirms it. By staying way outside the spewing putrifcation of tired political ideologies, mainly from team Mensa with the rainbow coalition (Boedy, TFG and SH), the fish went well outside and were catchable in great numbers the further one moved out from there.
Someone should call Silver Hilton today and let him know, but then again, how can he move away from himself?
We didn't stand a chance out there. I should have realized it early on when one pump's minor stern anchor incident represented no danger since it appeared the Smoker Craft was sitting almost out of the water. In retrospect it seems it likely was sitting on a hump of BS! You didn't need to borrow my anchor because as soon as yours floated into the zone of bad politics it got stuck in the goo with no problems!
Boedy, I may have to get you an early present! I don't think you can wait until July to get rid of that hat!
Tangle? Did I tangle yesterday? Bad plug. Bad Plug! Baaaaad Plug!! Into the box for you!
BTW, this story is not over. The people of team Stealth know what I am talking about. For at least one of [the rest of] you, you will too sooner or later, and you better hope it isn't later. Prankmaster? Me????

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Hog, I had to think about that one a moment (remembering back to the sturgeon derby incident), but then it dawned on me what you meant and I busted a gut laughing!
Yeah, that fruit should be "ripe" for picking about now!

I've been trying to think of a way to blame my fouled prop on somebody else, but this is almost as good.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Just my luck it was a slow fish day and I got to provide one of the few photo ops. Normally I'd thrash anybody who called my boat a (gasp)"Smoker Craft" but due to Hog's generous offer of the use of his anchor I'll let it slide.
BTW, several days ago on the "Stupid boat ramp tricks" thread I predicted I would pull some boneheaded maneuver at the flotilla. This proves that I walk it like I talk it.

Re: Political Flotilla
Ooops!
Sorry 1pump! What a slap in the face. That would be as bad as calling my ride an Alumaweld!
Actually I was trying to protect you from unmerciless kidding by those who don't know you by mis-identifying your boat. But considering STG's pic has it clearly showing KLAMATH on the side , I guess you are now a marked man!
If you would have let me loan you that other anchor you could have parked outside and maybe had a better chance. But then again, being outside of Keta, Skein and GSA sounds really radical!

Re: Political Flotilla
Okay Hogmaster, exactly what is wrong with an Alumaweld? My boat floats just fine thank you. Are you implying that Alumaweld is somehow inferior to that willie thing you float around in?

Re: Political Flotilla
Well, today I went back, anchored in almost precisely the same spot, and HogOne and three buddies joined me, anchoring where the Ape was. Another boat came up, and I told him that the best spot was likely to be in between us. He was within six feet of where Ruth and Jim were yesterday. Well, the guy anchored up, and an hour later, danged if he didn't catch STG's fish! And then half an hour later, he hooks another! And then HogOne gets one.
But me? Nope. Not even a nibble. Sigh. I think the stench of BS from the spot to the inside has remained, and spooked the fish further outside. I remain fishless for the year, but ever hopeful. But, boy, do I have the right slot measured out now!!! Now, once the Willie stench gets washed down river, we should start bagging some fish.
Had a great time, guys. I'll be back friday, saturday and sunday, either same spot, or down bumping with Lured In. Come party with me. Friday my son will be along, so I'll have to be couth. That might let Hogmaster actually appear to get the best of an exchange.
And Lured, I'm male, so my color nomenclature is weak, as is my color vision. But I'm pretty sure my boat is blue.

Re: Political Flotilla
Lured in: We have the sticker on the boat. Right under the word ALUMAWELD, (Hogmaster didn't notice it either).
1pump: What is this nonsense about fouled props. I SAW you just checking the depth, you just looped it over the prop to rest your arm after checking the depth for a few yards before you got to us.
GSA: You were much closer than those pictures indicate (he was really only 15-25 feet from the rest of us). He just doesn't want to admit to being that close to all that moderate, liberal stuff.
Silver: Did the guy that got my fish happen to give back the tackle I lost?
Most important outcome of this little flotilla:
Remember what snapset said?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Squawmaster didn't notice much. He was too busy weakly trying to fling smack.
Maybe he'll have a good year this year and get himself a good boat. One that can keep his guests comfortable. Dare I say it, a "wussie windshield and top" boat. With an efficient, smooth running, compact, yet powerful motor. Rather than that last generation mixed breed thing he has. The only good thing that motor does is serve as a matrix for screw holes for a rod holder mount. Oops, I forgot, I guess the tiller is useful to give Gary something to hold onto when he runs aground.

Re: Political Flotilla
STG...in keeping with the spirit of political debate, Hog and I both say you don't have one, you say you do. Democratically that puts us on the majority. We win. (No electoral college applicable.)
In my own defense, not only was I not looking for a sticker on your boat, I wouldn't have expected to see a "hog line" of ifish boats anchored in separate counties from one another.
Plus, I really can't take anyone seriously who fishes in a driftboat on the Big C.
