Mo' smallies
The Molalla is producing some great action, and I dont even know much about bass fishin' We hooked around 75, between the two of us.
We catch them when going after Summer Steelhead and Spring Chinook.
After July 1st any Steelhead can be kept! And there are a few clipped Springers in there, be ready for a real monster.
Best action below Canby, it was slow in the Mouth of the Pudding area, and dead in the Willy. But that was last week.

The water is so low now, a driftboat wont do it. Be careful!

Re: Mo' smallies
How about a small pontoon boat or maybe a short shallow-sitting drift boat (say 12' or less) ? Or maybe a jon boat?

Re: Mo' smallies
The pontoon would be best. Unless you dont mind banging around and roping down some spots.

Re: Mo' smallies
Coolness. I might be getting a 'toon from a fellow ifisher - and the Mo is one of the rivers I want to try floating. The Tualatin and Pudding are also on the list, as are the Willamette backwaters. A toon would sure beat a float tube in a lot of situations - like river fishing. Especially since I need a new pair of waders (my old Hodgemans finally wore a hole through the knees at the tail end of last season. I have had 'em for almost 10 years.)

No Motors allowed above the 99 Bridge which is below the park. You can put in at the Molalla state park & run up to the mouth of the Mollala 1/4 mile give or take a little where it can be good at times. The rocky areas on the left as you go up is also a good area.
Good luck.

Re: Mo' smallies
The actual rule is no Jet drives above 99E in Canby. With the very low flows, a prop would only get you up into the very lower river, from the Willy. USGS recalibrated the flow today, and it looks like the meter is actually off, overcalculating the CFS. Its close to 200cfs, not 233cfs reported as of today. Very very low flow...
The red asterisk is measured on site data, and likely the actual flow

Hmm... I know exactly where this was taken. used to fish this spot as a kid all the time. There is very little access without small floatation devices. Seeing as the river is so small and shallow, bank fishing would be good, but in this are of the river, I believe all access is on private property. You can give yourself a decent walk from multiple public access points, but long distance walking in the water can be tiring. If you float it from upriver, you may need to drift all the way to molalla river state park to load up.
