Default Lower Willy 6/13/09

Dragon67 and I went out of Cedar Oak Park on Saturday. We got on the water about 6am and were off by 2pm. Fished many different spots between the launch and Ross Island. We would hit a few in most of the spots we tried but never put them on a solid pattern. Got some is 3ft of water and others in 17feet of water. Just about anything seem to work somewhat as we caught them on diving cranks, lipless, jerkbaits, dropshot, and shakeyheads. The only thing we didn’t get them on was topwater. Dragon67 got 20 and I struggled to get 10. Three biggest were 2lbs 8oz, 2lbs 8ozs, 2lbs, 10oz. I was hoping for better but considering it is only my second time fishing that stretch I will take what I can get. Of course I got some help for a couple other ifishers while I was out on the water. Thanks Ryan and Kurt.

Sounds like I need to make a trip to the lower river. Was there a lot of pressure out there. I havent been on the lower river yet this year and I only live 5 min away. Nice job....

Last weekend was less pressure than I have seen in about a month.... Gets pretty packed out there at times.

To me the place was packed. But then again I usually fish the Willy in Salem so if I see more then 3 boats on the river fishing I feel crowded.

We also had got a nice break in or fishing thanks to the boat races they had going on. The police had part of the river closed off so we had to sit around for about 45 minutes and wait to get back up river.

Ya but those races were awesome

The best part was we were originally told 15 min.... then another 15 min.... then 20 more min. I would have ran back down river and fished if I would have known it was going to be 45+ minutes, but didn't want to miss our short window to get through.

My back seater wasn't too mad, he took a 45 minute nap!

Due to all the pressure and boat traffic I have pretty much quit fishing the willy. Ive been spoiled by the upper columbia where I rarely if ever run into anyone except at the dock. And if theres a little wind guys tend to shy away and thats when most of my best days have been. If I do go to the willy its usually from daylite till ten or so. Atleast til all the pleasure boaters show up. Maybe I will give it a try this weekend.....
