Default TRYING TO HELP - by DENNIS MILLER

ALL THE RHETORIC ON WHETHER OR NOT WE SHOULD GO TO WAR AGAINST IRAQ HAS GOT
MY INSANE LITTLE BRAIN SPINNING LIKE A ROULETTE WHEEL. I ENJOY READING
OPINIONS FROM BOTH SIDES BUT I HAVE DETECTED A HINT OF CONFUSION FROM SOME
OF YOU. AS I WAS READING THE PAPER RECENTLY, I WAS REMINDED OF THE BEST
ADVICE SOMEONE EVER GAVE ME. HE TOLD ME ABOUT THE KISS METHOD ("KEEP IT
SIMPLE, STUPID!) SO, WITH THIS AS A THEME, I'D LIKE TO APPLY THIS THEORY FOR
THOSE WHO DON'T QUITE GET IT. MY HOPE IS THAT WE CAN SIMPLIFY THINGS A BIT
AND RECOGNIZE A FEW IMPORTANT FACTS. HERE ARE 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN
VOICING AN OPINION ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE:

1) OUT OF PRESIDENT BUSH AND SADDAM HUSSEIN ... HUSSEIN IS THE BAD GUY.

2) IF YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE UNITED NATIONS TO DO THE RIGHT THING KEEP THIS
IN MIND, THEY HAVE LIBYA HEADING THE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND IRAQ
HEADING THE GLOBAL DISARMAMENT COMMITTEE. DO YOUR OWN MATH HERE

3) IF YOU USE GOOGLE SEARCH AND TYPE IN "FRENCH MILITARY VICTORIES," YOUR
REPLY WILL BE "DID YOU MEAN FRENCH MILITARY DEFEATS?"

4) IF YOUR ONLY ANTI-WAR SLOGAN IS "NO WAR FOR OIL," SUE YOUR SCHOOL
DISTRICT FOR ALLOWING YOU TO SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS AND ROBBING YOU OF THE
EDUCATION YOU DESERVE.

5) SADDAM AND BIN LADEN WILL NOT SEEK UNITED NATIONS APPROVAL BEFORE THEY
TRY TO KILL US.

6) DESPITE COMMON BELIEF, MARTIN SHEEN IS NOT THE PRESIDENT. HE PLAYS ONE ON
T. V.

7) EVEN IF YOU ARE ANTI-WAR, YOU ARE STILL AN "INFIDEL!" AND BIN LADEN WANTS
YOU DEAD, TOO.

8) IF YOU BELIEVE IN A "VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY" BUT NOT IN THE DANGER
THAT HUSSEIN POSES, QUIT HANGING OUT WITH THE DELL COMPUTER DUDE.

9) WE ARE GOING TO LIBERATE THEM.

10) WHETHER YOU ARE FOR MILITARY ACTION OR AGAINST IT, OUR YOUNG MEN AND
WOMEN OVERSEAS ARE FIGHTING FOR US TO DEFEND OUR RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT. WE ALL
NEED TO SUPPORT THEM WITHOUT RESERVATION.

I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Self moderation.

I'm sorry, Geek. I will be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.

Boedy,

Lean left young man, lean left! Get ready for censure. I am sure that this thread will be shut down too. Remember, you can insult the president, belittle our country but Lord pity the fool who has the audacity to say that a one of Hollywood’s social icons are not worthy of listening to.

From Otolith's thread that was recently closed by the Geek.

I got a copy of this yesterday and thought about posting it. I refrained on the grounds that it might get me in trouble.

The topic that Olotith brought up had no discernable value. The Bush education issue has been beaten to death, and debating which Dixie cup is the fuller of the two is silly. I could have left it open and let the left come back with "Yeah, well Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar and look what HE did" but where would that have gotten us? As it is I thought I was being decent by leaving it up for those who wanted to view the link. I could have easily vaporized the whole thing and nobody would have been the wiser.

Dennis Miller is a known political humorist and satirist. Posting his stuff is just as good as posting the Leno and Letterman joke links. I mean, really. Did you believe for a minute that Iraq is the head of the Global Disarmament Committee? Or that they are even ON that committee? Libyan Arab Jamahiriya is actually on the Human Rights committee, but they don't head it. If anyone could list any human rights violations by Libya in the last few years, btw, I'd be happy to listen.

Oh, and if you think that I'll only be picking on the right, think again. I'll beat up the left as well. Go ahead. TRY ME.

Just for the record:

From Amnesty International's 2001 Annual Report on Libya:

Hundreds of political prisoners, including prisoners of conscience and possible prisoners of conscience, remained in detention, many without charge or trial. Libyans forcibly returned to the country, including asylum-seekers, were believed to have been subjected to human rights violations. Torture, especially during incommunicado detention, continued to be reported. The authorities failed to protect hundreds of sub-Saharan Africans from racist attacks, reportedly leading to the killings of dozens of Africans.

Sounds like they should be on a human rights committee to me.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">We would be remiss if we did not note that the US has more prisoners per capita than any other nation in the world. Yes, that includes Iraq and Libya. And Russia, and China.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Yeah, if that's true its probably because we don't execute people for shoplifting...or for just about any other crime...we warehouse them. How do those other countries compare if you add their prison populations to their prison graveyard populations?

also note that the quote was

We have prisoners, yes. Because we have the freedom to commit crimes and live, in general. How many political prisoners do we hold?
