Default Dixie Chick's excellent apology to GW.

I havent' checked the source of this so don't know if it is legitimate or not.

However, regardless, it is sure a great response.

Apology from Natalie Maines

As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I now realize that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect.

I hope everyone understands, I'm just a young girl who grew up in Texas. As far back as I can remember, I heard people say they were ashamed of President Clinton. I saw bumper stickers calling him everything from a pothead to a murderer. I heard people on the radio and tv like Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich and Trent Lott bad mouthing the President and ridiculing his wife and daughter at every opportunity.

I heard LOTS of people disrespecting the President. So I guess I just assumed it was acceptable behavior.

But now, thanks to the thousands of angry people who want radio stations to boycott our music because criticizing the President is unpatriotic, I realize it's wrong to have a liberal opinion if you're a country music artist. I guess I should have thought about that before deciding to play music that attracts hypocritical red necks.

I also realize now that I'm supposed to just sing and look cute so our fans won't have anything to upset them while they're cheating on their wives or getting in drunken bar fights or driving around in their pickup trucks shooting highway signs and small animals.

And most important of all, I realize that it's wrong for a celebrity to voice a political opinion, unless they're Charlie Daniels, Clint Black, Merle Haggard, Barbara Mandrell, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Travis Tritt, Hank Williams Jr, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, Crystal Gayle, Reba McEntire, Lee Greenwood, Lorrie Morgan, Anita Bryant, Mike Oldfield, Ted Nugent, Wayne Newton, Dick Clark, Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Dixie Carter, Victoria Jackson, Charleton Heston, Fred Thompson, Ben Stein, Bruce Willis, Kevin Costner, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Bo Derek, Rick Schroeder, George Will, Pat Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly, Joe Rogan, Delta Burke, Robert Conrad or Jesse Ventura.

God Bless America,
Natalie

Is it just me or does that sounds a lot like a little kid crying, "but... (sniff, sniff) but... everybody else was doing it."

I especially like the part where she says her fans are wife-beating, drunks who get off on destroying public property and small animals with their guns! What a way to win your fans back! You go, girl!

Heck, when you hit the bottom... why not start digging.

I am really going to be interested in seeing how their concerts go when they bring their world tour back home in the US.

GSA,

Boy, you are intent on fighting with me.

I didn't say either way, legitimate or not. In fact, I made a point to say I didn't know if it were legitimate or not. I said it was a good response, nothing more.

As for the other responses on here. I would remind that it notes she is from Texas where the activities of her fans are probably pretty well described, that she would probably know her fans better than the readers of this board and that for a bunch that so readily reminds of us of what Clinton did in their defense of GW, yea, blaming your actions on the actions of others seems to be ok. Just as President bashing was seen as OK when Clinton was in office.

I think the problem is that she said these things overseas to a anti-american crowd . If you don't understand the significants of that I can't explain it to you typing like this I'd have to talk to you.I personally do not care what any "entertianer" thinks about such wieghty issues or any issue for that matter.Bono's thoughts on aids,Susan suranwraps take on foriegn policy and of course Martin Sheen now thinks he is president. It all makes for a great laugh now and then.

Why do entertainers, athletes, etc. have any pull at all? I don't care what they think. It's not like they got where they are based on their intelligence. Some of them have a brain, some don't, but their intellect for the most part, has nothing to do with popularity, in fact in some cases I think the dumber celebs are more popular. I don't get why them advertising stuff or taking political stands should even matter. Just because they have the stage doesn't mean we have to watch. Say what you want, those of us who aren't sheep will judge your intelligence and sincerity for ourselves.

Makes it tough in my house because my toddler loves the Dixie Chicks!

Darn my old memory, though. I sure seem to remember their comment when their music comes on this good ol' boy's radio. I just turn the volume down for a couple minutes and then I'm okay again.

Probably gonna keep doin' that.

Whether it's legitimate or not there is some truth to what is she said.
Take a listen to Rush or Michael Savage sometime. Back when Clinton was in office I remember that Rush called Chelsea Clinton a dog! That was wrong of him to do that and he should have apoogized but he didn't.
I do think that celebs are no more clued in that any other regular citizen as far as current events go. They just have a spotlight to air their beliefs.
Part of the reason we are so fractured as a nation is because of the radio pundits from both sides of the political spectrum. It's amazing how much influence these people have on public opinion.

For what its worth, and that's not much more (if any) than the Dixie Chicks, do what you do and leave your personal opinions to personal conversations. As a professional sales person, I would be foolish to think that if I was to indulge my political opinions into a sales presentation, I would likely loose at least half (according to polls) of my audience.

There are things that each of us do, and within that realm, we generally know who does or does not share our opinion. In my analogy above, it would not suprise me if a company chose not to buy from me if I irritated them with my political monologue. Most of them could probably give a hoot about what I think politically. They choose to do business with me based on my ability to meet their needs/wants. If; however, I give them reason to believe we have less in common than they thought, they may choose not to do business with me. My conclusion, leave personal opinions to personal conversations.

I ACTUALLY like the Dixie Chicks music. I could have lived a happy life assuming they shared a different opinion than I do. But to KNOW they have a different opinion is completely another story. As I have said in other posts, your freedom of speech does not free you from being accountable for what you say.

An old saying..."Better to keep your mouth closed and people to think you a fool, than to open it and confirm their suspicions."

In addition to the Dixie Chicks, I will also be avoiding ANYthing that has Sean Penn in or around it.

Just think three years ago they were booked at the Albany River Rhythms Concert Series!

I told my friend Ted, who runs the series, how lucky he was to smooze with the hot Betties!

He said, forget it. Without the lights, touch-up and make up they all look like five miles of bad road.

And now, we are supposed to give a flying rip what some ignorant flake from Texas thinks?

PA...LEASEEEE!

SD,

We are talking about "the Dixie Chicks" Good Lord, their name alone sets back the Feminist movement about 200 years! Why don’t they call themselves “the Abilene Sex-Objects” or how about “the Confederate Co-Dependents”?

Are you indignant because you are gallant or because you so closely relate to these purveyors of anti-Americanism?

The sad part is out of most people on this board, I actually care about what you think. I like you and have worked to keep things from getting personal between us. So, why you are attacking me is unclear to me now. As for LS, personal edit

Trust me, LS, whatever restraint you think you are showing has little impact on my feelings about you or for you. 10 years of dealing with criminals and a rough childhood have thickened my skin, strengthened my resolve, and broadened my shoulders. So, let it fly. I am editing this because I feel it was my opinion and should stay that way.

Hold er Krue!

I am not "attacking" anyone, especially you!

I asked a simple question.

Correct me if I am wrong but I remember you rightfully pointing out to me not long ago that one can sway opinion best by education and understanding.

Refering to someone that I doubt you know personally as an ignorant flake because she does not see the current situation as you do seems contrary to the line of thought of education and understanding.

By the way, I haven't seen the Dixie's on TV nor live so don't know what they look like to tell you the truth. I have heard their music and kind of liked it, though.

Holy cow, I thought I had sufficiently sunk to lows in past that made it perfectly clear when I was attacking someone!

SD,

When I talk with you, I give you the respect due. But in this case Natalie Maines has not earned respect. She, like other protestors and activists (mostly the violent ones), has earned my contempt. It was not so much what she said as "where" and "when" she said it.

It was a poor choice on her part.

Let us not forget that the Dixie Chicks pose nude for PETA there management would not let PETA use this picture and even offered PETA $10,000 to say this did not happen. I through my Dixie Chicks cd away. I refuse to support anyone who opposes hunting and fishing. Peta even says it is crule to animals to have a pet.

Boy Hoggemin,

You 'through' away their cd's huh? I bet that made 'there' managment mad!

I just can't imagine why one would describe their fans (or ex fans) as dumb rednecks??

It may sound 'crule' but sometimes the truth is indeed cruel.

Keep it up, soon whoever wrote that apology can simply rest their case.

They ditzy chicks meant their original comments or they would have never opened their big mouths to start with.

I don't buy their apology for one second. It's a pathetic attempt at damage control, no doubt from their public relations manager in an effort to keep their careers afloat. I'm not gullible enough to believe they are sincere in their apology. It was for damage control only.
