Default Frustration of the press....

"Where is the awe and shock attack?!"

"Whuh..huh...it wasn't supposed to start until tomorrow....?!

"My source said...?!"

"It was supposed to be in the first 48 hours?!

"We don't know when the 'awe and shock' attack is going to take place?!"

I find it pretty funny that they just can't wait for a massive attack. Not that they are being particularly "sensationalist" but it is certainly clear to me, they are hoping for something more.

Personally I can't think of a better attack plan than to give the Iraqi army every chance to surrender, while making our position clear. It looks as though that plan may be working, at least according the some of the reports I have heard.

Not that 'awe and shock' attack won't happen, but the press certainly seems a bit miffed that the military isn't operating in a way that makes it easy to cover. Perhaps they were hoping for something more like.."Tune in at 800pm to see Baghdad get attacked again."

Personally, I appreciate those reporters on the ground with the troops that are holding to the promise of secrecy regarding their locations.

Any other thoughts on how the press is doing?

No doubt, the press is hoping to sell air time and seems to expect John Wayne and a Video game. Truth of the matter is there's a lot of digging holes in the sand, transporting materiel, cooking and other mundane stuff that has to take place to support anything. Imagine the boredom of a 6 hour drive across the desert without a CD player!

There was some amazing video on CNN 'til a minute ago. They had a cameraman with a videophone on the hood of a humvee as it was running with the 7th Cav north towrds Baghdad. Not much to see except dust and an occasional burned out vehicle from the last war, but still pretty cool.

Not five minutes after i made the comment that the TV news was treating the war "like a sporting event", the Fox news guy actually said: "General Tommy Franks called an audible at the line of scrimmage."

Try not to get sucked into it. It takes about five minutes to learn everything they know, then it just repeats and repeats.

And don't forget the information is carefully controlled by "our side."

You know, it almost seems like there are those, who secretly hope that something will go wrong so they can say " I told you so". So far GW's plan is working and it looks good. Saddam and his two psychotic sons may already have gone to their reward.

I hope the negative, nattering, nabobs aren't too disappointed if this war goes down clean.

As a nabob, I sincerely hope you are right. I would dearly love to get away with this without a counter-attack on the home front.

In my opinion, no one in ther right mind wishes for anything but a swift resolution with as little bloodshed on both sides as possible.

Wishing for anything else is as sick as people cheering when they see bombs going off in populated areas. It is not a game. There are no winners.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Well, no doubt we can kick posterior militarily. What happens in Iraq when there is no "regime" to keep all the factions from tearing the country apart? And we have isolated ourselves from the rest of the world. It's not a USA world - we are just one great mighty nation among many nations. The BAD results are going to be in THE LONG RUN. The Russians and the Chinese are mad at us ... ah, takes me back to my childhood ...

Thanks to OJ for the "all war all the time" coverage of no new developments we have as todays strategy for "new" coverage. I can deal with the annoyance of having them on all the time with nothing to say, what bothers me is that seeing the same thing on all the time hides anything that actually happens. I tune out so I miss the real "news".

Wouldn't be nice if they kept a chronological time line of the news coming out so you could just skip back to when you were last watching?

the latest..."B-52's took off from the UK. Could this be the beginning of the shock and awe campaign?" response from military analyst..."well that may be but the last time we saw this, we thought the same thing and it turned out they were just repositioning the B-52's."
