Yes, it has started
If you had the television or the radio on tonight, you already know that the U.S.-led attacks in Iraq have started.
It is my hope that all military personnel who are involved in effort come home to their loved ones safely, and soon.
I really hope that this is the only thread that comes from the Iraq situation, now that it is under way. Nobody is going to change their mind about it now, and I think we can all agree that it is a very serious time for everyone.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Yup, especially for ol' Saddam. Apparently the first strike was made by two F-117s that dropped two laser-guided one-ton bunker busters apiece on the command bunker in Baghdad. No word yet if Saddam was there or not...but presumably, US forces believed he was.

Re: Yes, it has started
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I suppose none of your friends or relatives are there..There are no winners in war only losers and hurt people.
I just dont see why our narrow minded "leader" just wont let things be, and let the UN deal with these issues instead of jumping the gun. If he was so gung-ho and sure that he wa right in his war on "evil" why isnt he out there on the front lines. After all, he isnt even sending his kids, I even highly doubt that hehas any family or friends REMOTLEY close to combat.
I am not anti-american or anti america, but I just hope we either bring our troops back safely soon or we just realize its a losing battle sooner than later. Personally I think Bush is a horrible person and leade and he has affected a few of my close friends lives right now by taking them away from thier school and families, I wish them the best and nothing but a safe return home to thier families. I just dont want to see this turn into another Vietnam where we think we have a point to prove and come home tired, useless and looking for reasons why.
Again, if I could talk to Bush, I would just say let the UN handle everything. He is going against international law.

Re: Yes, it has started
I wish i was there, good on ya *** clerk. I read this thread and think about what has been posted... Just let the U.N. deal with it. That is like driving by one of the needy and laughing in there face, and saying glad it isn't me. Somebody else will deal with it. Or a fishing reference, boat floating down river with out power, and guy waving hands for help and you just keep going to your fishing spot. Yeah great attitude. People ask what have we become as people these days, well i will tell you what i have become and that is A concerned citizen and proud defender of our great nation. If i go to the gulf again (been there twice) i will with out sheading a tear. All i hear now days is how wrong it is to do what we are doing... Well times have changed since vietnam, and so has society. If you don't like what we do, come up with an effective alternative, and that doesn't mean let somebody else deal with it. If everybody had that attitude we would be without a military and all the freedoms we are afforded, by somebody else protecting those freedoms for you...
Sorry that last post p****ed me off.

Re: Yes, it has started
Did you ever do anything that your parents and everyone else was telling you that you shouldnt? Then once you do it, you realize you should have rethought your game plan?
Well the UN is everybody else and the Bush seems not to care much what they have to say. We arent defending our nation, are we even defending another? Point being there is vested interest in Iraq, the latest issue of Time magazine covers it quite well. Read it next time you get a chance. I am all forhelping people, but sometimes helping is costly, inthis situation it can cost thousands of lives.

Re: Yes, it has started
As far as providing security, the UN is totally inept. If this war turns out to be a matter of national security, as we have been told, where is the relevance of what "Everyone else" or "the UN" has to say?

It didn't take too long for the folks in Kuwait to find some of those scuds that Iraq didn't have, did it?

and that's just the start ... next we'll see deployment of chemical weapons that were "destroyed" ... then the international community will wake up and jump the fence.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">News that I heard said that they were most likely not SCUD, and, even though the soldiers in Kuwait donned chemical suits, that there were no chemicals on those short-range rockets.

Re: Yes, it has started
Geek, I agree. I have friends over there (God bless 'em) who are doing what their nation has asked them to do. All I can do is see that their families are watched over and supported while they're gone.
But I also remember the terrible, terrible sight of burning towers and innocent people jumping to their deaths - and the words of of resolve George Bush spoke in the days following, words almost drowned out by applause. He hasn't altered his resolve and some of our hands are still clapping.
If I were Iran and North Korea I'd be pretty worried right now....
Let's roll!

I also have a member of my family in Kuwait. He is a Marine out of Camp Pendleton. He is VERY proud to be there, and we are VERY proud of him.
Good point Thumper...and you're right Skein, let's roll.

Technically, it really hasn't started yet, at least the way it was originally planned. I don't think we have seen anything yet.

Re: Yes, it has started
I do not like the precedent that we are setting as a nation, are we now going to go after every nation that we do not like the gov of, and change that to one we are happy with? As to the peaple dying in the twin towers, yes, a terrible thing, but we still have no proof that Iraq was mixed up in that. Who made us the policeman of the world...I think many will be singing a differant tune when their taxes start going up even more to pay for this waste of a war...back to Vietnam

Just learning The U.N. has a way of doing nothing . The U.N. is incapable of handling any situation as it has proven repeatedly . Thats why Clinton largly ignored that group 3rd world perverts throughout his terms. He did'nt ask them about serbia at all because the anti-american jakals were strangly absent at that time.Love GOD Country And FREE IRAQ.
