Default Why Fight for Freedom?

Why fight for freedom?

Today Marie and I attended a rally to support our troops in the upcoming possible war in Iraq. It made me proud to be from this great country of ours. Where opposing views could stand side by side and voice their opinions and agree to disagree. Most attending this event were in support of our troops and were very patriotic. Mothers spoke of their sons. Fathers spoke of bravery. Sons spoke of their fathers. Some silently prayed.
I thought of my father who fought 5 campaigns in WWII to protect our freedom and our allies freedoms. Of the terrible suffering caused by a man with terrible ambitions. Does this sound familiar?

I am very proud to be an American and stand by our country in this uncertain moment in history. My god guide us and our protect our sons and daughters in these times of crisis.

Jen,

I do not know who the little girl is. She was riding on her mothers shoulder during the parade walk. You may use the photo however you please. I am just a proud American and would love to see this photo spread all over the world.

LS - This is probably not the best time for sarcasm. Some people will see it as very disrespectful.

I didn't read what Lost Sailor said, but I appreciate crabbait's non-condescending and respectful response. Keep up the good work, crabbait!

If I thought for even 1 second that this war was about freedom I would be behind it whole heartidly.... I have a wife and 3 kids who I would die for in a second if it meant protection...

But let's think about this war for a second. Who are we protecting? The hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's who live in squallor and are being shelled nightly in hopes of killing one person (Saddam)???? It is called special forces... if we don't like the leader and think he is preventing freedom of his people get him....not the peasants who have no choice.

This war is about money and money only. Bush and his supporters are getting paid huge money in the this battle. Why else would you give campaign contributions in the tens of millions of dollars without wanting something in return.

My kids schools are being cut to the bare bones, public assistance is being cut, but we can fully fund a war half-way across the world to do what exactly? Promote freedom???? This is the UN's job, not ours. What give us (BUSH) the right to attack a nation we disagree with, but we plead with the world for simpathy when we are attacked (9/11).

I think we are acting hipocritally and I hope that my children and yours do not have to pay the price for this war living in a county that is the target of attacks from every corner of the world...

Let's all hope this ends quickly with as little loss of life as possible.

Schools, public assistance are not the responsability of the federal government! Those are local issues. We who live here in Oregon are to blame for those issues. Granted the economy is in the dumper but I do not feel it is Mr. Bush who is responsible for that. I do not believe any administration can claim either success or failure with the ecomomy. It is what it is.

As for the policy of attacking Iraq...He has flipped us the finger for 12 years my friend. He has violated all international law and had been killing and maiming his own people for way too long. While the rest of the world for the most part was willing to accept that, I am proud that we finally have a president that says.....ENOUGH! Killing for the sake of killing is not a good thing, Poisining your own people because they do not like what you think is not a good thing, killing family members because they may be a threat is not a good thing....Hmmmm this guy sounds like a feller back in Germany during WWII who thought killing was a perfect way of dealing with inferior people..... See the resembelence?

I would gladly go today to assist our military if I was called upon to do so. I still believe that our country is founded on good solid principals and this war is not being fought over oil, money, or empire building.

rhansme

ps: I respect your opinion. It is what this country is founded upon.
