Default Swimming

Mighty cold to go swimming this time of year but that's just what happened. Went buzzing around the back side of Ash Is. at Newberg yesterday and wouldn't ya know them old brush buster pilings had snag stuck on them and it decided to grab the bottom of the old wood boat. If anyone is into water salvaging it's still sittin there.
no riggin in it just out for a joy ride. Had an old smoke blowin monster outboard on it if you want to go after it. Not sure brand or size but it has a home heat bent cowl on it that is dark green with a poly welded lite green top. All we were worried about was getting to the bank and wouldn't you know it was the wrong bank so we had to back in to get back to the right side.

A warning learn from my stupid mistake and misfortune no matter how well you know the river this time of year take it easy there is a lot of stuff floating down and hanging up. I knew better but chose poorly in this situation and payed the price. Swimming and a long cold soggy walk back to the ramp.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL THE PFDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND I WOULD VENTURE TO SAY THEY PROBABLY SAVED OUR LIVES. WATCH THE RIVER FOR ANYTHING OUT OF THE NORM AND MOST OF ALL PLEASE BE SAFE WE DON'T NEED TO LOOSE ANYONE FROM POOR JUDGMENT.

Wow, that stinks. Sorry about your bad day, and thanks for the reminder. I hit a submerged piling last summer. As I passed that same spot last weekend, I realized that I hadn't been watching very well because the water was so high. Dumb, I know where most of them are, but "out of sight, out of mind"!

Bummer! :depressed: Glad it was a walk and not a ride to the morgue. Sorry for your boat loss.

Hey sled... I live in nbg. and fish ash quite a bit(grn and white bayliner) if you want a hand with recovery give me a holler ! I know about those pilings, have seen many a boat try to go over, some make it some dont. I know my boat with the outdrive wont but I hang around them often,(especially for springers). I have some time if you want to recover.

Very glad to hear you were darning the PFD.

Somehow caught about 1/3 of the way back on the left side hooked into the center support box and ripped her way back to the transom and tore that off. I think I'm goona wait till the level goes down some before trying to get the motor back.
We got tossed out when we lost the transom and the boat kept going for just a short ways not sure if I'm ever gonna find the boat again. I know I don't want to get back in that ice water to get the motor back until until it warms up it will probably be there when we go back to look for it.

REMEMBER THE PFD SOME DAY IT MIGHT NOT BE SOMEBODY ELSE LIKE WE ALL THINK IT WILL.

Happenend to me on the willy last year in Salem. Some guy in a Jon boat pulled my Dumb Tail out of the water then went out and pulled in my capsized boat. Saved my life...never even found out his name or had the chance to say thanks....Glad you made it. Remember the lesson and thank God for second chances
