Default Wallowa Lake

Hello Fellow "Ifishers".... I may be heading East to Wallowa Lake in mid August. Can anyone give me a heads up on what kind of fishing is good there and how to set up?

Any two-cents worth of info would be greatly appreciated.

Mackinaw is the goal if you want big fish. Down riggers with Ford Fender type stuff for the Mackinaw. Otherwise, troll spinners for rainbows near the mouth of the river, or throw power bait from the bank almost anywhere. Kokanee may be present while you're there. Check this link out....
http://www.protroll.com/books/?id=3 . Someone else may have more info for ya.

P.S. The water is always pretty cold. Bring wet suit for skiing!

We limited out on healthy trout very quickly in August of 2006. Most people anchor or troll by the mouth down there near the campground. But we knocked them out on the opposite side of the access road about mid way on the late. There is a larger run off there and every pass you can get trout. We used primarily a double whammy (wedding ring w/ two hooks) in rainbow.

This picture is back at the launch... The spot I am talking about is to the right of this while facing the launch.

Good luck!

Hay Grumpy. Make sure you don't get caught with the heads cut off of those trout. It's a fairly hefty fine. You can do it with kokanee but not trout. Reason is that kokanee is by count and trout is by count "and" length.

We are heading over there this Friday for my b-day, have always done well with eggs, worms or whatever over by the mouth of the river, but like grumpy said the area mid way on the side of the lake also produces. Watch out for the Bull Trout, there are some big ones in there but you can't keep them.
