Default Virus alert - Hoax

..and Jennie adds: Please do not post virus information on ifish. Rely on a professional source, such as Norton.com, and many others for virus information. Too often, with very good intentions, people pass these around. I feel that sometimes virus hoaxes like these were invented to embarrass people and screw up your computer!
Better just to look whatever you received up on the internet sites that we can trust, and go from there.
How awful to write a virus, that people in good intention try to help others with, by passing it along, only to have people write back that it screwed up their files, and get mad at the person trying to help. What's with people who write these things???
OK, enough! I'm out!
Thanks for trying to help, drifter, but as you have found out, it's not true.
Jen

This is how the hoax is spread (crabbait)-I had this virus, better check your machine too!

One of my e-mail friends received a virus which in turn was
passed to everyone in her address book, which included me. I
found the virus on my machine and deleted it, so it is
possible that my computer passed it on. You need to follow
the enclosed instructions and do a search to make sure it
isn't hiding on your machine.

Make sure you check your computer. I found this on mine.
Since all of you are in my address book, I'm assuming you could of
gotten
this too! Sorry, it was passed to me from a friend!

I was just informed that my address book may have been infected
with a virus. As a result, so may yours. The virus is called
jdbgmgr.exe. It cannot be detected by Norton or McAfee
anti-virus programs. It sits quietly for about 14 days before
damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger
and address book, whether or not you send e-mail! The good
news is that it's easy to get rid of!

Just follow these simple steps:

1. Go to start, then Find or Search

2. In files/folders, write the name jdbgmgr.exe

3. Be sure to search in your "C" drive for jdbgmgr.exe

4. Click Find or Search

5. The virus has a teddy bear logowith the name
jdbgmgr.exe---DO NOT OPEN

6. Click right and delete it.(DO NOT DO THIS - crabbait)

7. Go to the recycle bin and delete it also (NOT).

If you find the virus, you must contact everyone in your
address book. (NOT - crabbait)

I hope that you do not find this problem on your system. (It is a normal file...you will find it if you look for it - crabbait)

Careful, that is not a virus, it is a part of the operating system's debugger Java script tools, no different than the other millions of MS files on your HDD that you don't know what they do.

People find ways to do this all too often, find a file, claim it is a virus, and say that it can't be detected by antivirus SW. Below is the link to MS Developers website if you don't believe me.

Thanks for putting this out. I followed your instruction. Guess what I found it. I ran my Nortons afterwards and don't seem to have any other problems. I'm I missing something?

Unless you use MS Visual J++ 1.1 to develop Java programs on Windows you won't see any ill effects with deleting this file. If you are developer that uses MS Visual J++, you probably would know better not to delete it.

These warnings are almost always hoaxes. Buy a good anti-virus system and keep it current.

I received a virus the other day in snail mail. Text follows:

"You have just received the Amish virus. Because we don't have any computers, or programming experience, this virus works on the honor system. Please delete all the files from your hard drive and manually forward this virus to everyone on your mailing list. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Amish Computer Engineering Department"
