Default Wireless: Geeking out in Denver

Okay, so I do high tech for a living, but the advent of wireless computing is coming to everybody...at least with a laptop computer.

Wireless portals are popping up all around for everybody to use. Just now I got off the plane in Denver, walked into the terminal to wait for my connection and was able to flip open my notebook and viola' get my IFISH fix at LAN speeds of 10Mbps. My hotel tonight will be wireless as well, so I won't go without my temptations this week!!! If you didn't catch the news a few days ago, Portland is most wireless enabled cities in the nation today. This trend is growing fast.

I run wireless at home, and we have a few laptops..Oh BTW that is what do for my company is mobile computing solutions. And when my wife was on bed rest wireless was her way to shop for groceries, B-day gifts, and stay in contact with the world either from the couch, the bed, deck, or whereever.

later, gus

In another year, that's what I'll be doing also. (I hope)
Midlife career change, thanks to the power crunch a few years ago.

I also run wireless/100BaseT at home, waiting for an SD/WiFi card for my Palm Tungsten so I can bring that up on the net as well as the laptop.

Looked into a Bluetooth access point, too much money! Around $500 was the lowest I could find...

The challenge is securing it, as you know the security for 802.11x is pretty weak. Using MAC address and WEP right now...
