Default oil for war

Should we use iraqi oil to pay for both the Gulf War and the upcoming regime change?

The oil belongs to the people of Iraq. Pay for the cost of the war out of Saddam's bank accounts.

Hi Keta, it it common knowledge that you will never find Saddams bank accounts. Offshore banking will never release the information to anyone anytime. Just the way that business is ran.

I don't think Saddam views the oil as belonging to the people. How do you think his bank account got so fat?

By "upcoming regime change" do you mean reconstructing the country and (hopefully) stabilizing the region?

No I think "regime change" means finding a dead guys wallet before the guy is dead.

Theres another thread here too...Haliburton "awarded" a cleanup contract?

Geez...someone knows exactly how much money is in the wallet, AND how to spend it?

Pathetic

Sure. And while we are at it why don't we attack any other nation that has anything that we want and use those proceeds to finance the next "aquisition". Japan ought to be a piece of cake!

Who is going to stop us?

(Intense sarcasm, case ya didn't notice.)

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">CB - But we're not acquiring Iraq....we're liberating Iraq. And after the grateful Iraqi people pay us back the cost (no way to pay for the US lives that will most likely be lost, however :depressed: ) with some of the oil that they happen to be sitting on top of....we'll go away....and stay away as long as they behave themselves.

GSA, do you mean we (and the iraqi people) might get to benefit from the oil Saddam has been sitting on....which equals up to 9% of US demand, and we will all be able to rejoice as a nation, even a humorous one (or hateful one as Iraq is) when US gas prices drop as a result of dropping bombs, and Haliburton employeees are afforded a raise for oversees employment? Many people support a war for these reasons... Not many reasonable ones though.

I am not suggesting we go look for loot to plunder. If we are going to police the world, liberate oppressed people, minimize proliferation of WMD, and risk the blood of our people doing this, then I see no problem asking or even demanding at times some compensation. There are times we will help people that have nothing but need, and frankly this is more times than not. Sure we do many things that are in our bests interests as a nation, but why not. They are most often also in the interest of others as well. Whatever you political spectrum is, and whatever you think of Bush there are very good reasons to go to war in this case. Call it oil, freeing the world of a dangerous dictator, freeing a people, bringing some more human rights to that part of the world. I have heard many arguments against the up coming war but not one good argument why we shouldn't proceed with it. There are times when peace can be as dangerous as war.

Anyone see Koppels guest last night?

Was he lying through his teeth? Iraq is making valiant efforts to avoid war and comply with UN demands. Why are we still dropping flyers from planes asking Iraqis to disobey war orders, and surrender when the bombs start falling?

I think we should walk away after regime change.

If the French are so concerned about a humanitarian crisis in Iraq, let them go in and clean up the mess afterwords.

I don't pay taxes to give Iraqi's a better life. I pay taxes to protect me from Iraqis. Drop bombs until that nation is no longer a threat to my security, then leave them to think about whether it is wise to threaten my security again.
