Default East Lake reports?

The web site indicates some good success at East but looking for some confirmation. I would guess the weather has been rough up there recently but looks good for next week. I will be flyfishing out of a pontoon but any success with any method would be an encouraging report.

I would guess the crew that does great on big browns with big lures are already active up there. Their reports and pics last Spring were awesome. You guys around?

I was up there last weekend with my son. 31 Browns caught, mostly 14 - 18 inchers with a couple 3 lb'ers. All fish were caught trolling minnow imitating stickbaits and then released.

And then this guy made my weekend on the last morning

Fished yesterday all day and managed a cool dozen browns for the day.
There were two other guys in boats that were doing the same thing.
They seemed to be doing about like me. Nothing over 18 inches for me
I am starting to get a complex.

One of the other boats did land what looked to be about a 5 lber.
The guy in the 3rd boat was not as friendly but I did see him pulling in about the same rate I was.

I took a break about 3 in the afternoon and threw out a gibbs minnow and had a limit of kokes in the boat in 30 minutes. That was fun. My daughter loves eating them. She is always mad at me cause I never bring fish home.

Never more then a dozen boats at a time on the lake throughout the day.
Most were trolling or gigging for kokes.

My day started out bad. The fog on the lake was so bad that you could not see more than 30 feet. Not to worry I would motor out and stay in my favorite area. Well that worked till I hooked up in the first 10 minutes.
The wind was blowing so it blew me right out of where I thought I Was.
I had to use my compass to to move around and before I knew it I was in 150 feet of water ummm. Knowing the lake I had a good Idea where I was.
Still I messed around out of the zone for over an hour.
Then it got worse I was leaning over the side of my boat to hook up my line on the downrigger. The whole thing just snapped at the aluminum base. Almost went right over the side with boat moving and fog everywhere. That would have been fun with no clue where shore was.
Luckily I caught my self by my knees.
Not to just stop there at least I have a second downrigger so I went to rig that one up and put it over the side and wham the cable breaks and ball and all the hardware off to the bottom. So now I am out in the middle of the lake in the fog no downriggers wet all the way up to my shoulder fog not lifting. I was a little depressed to say the least!
I was able to gather my thoughts before giving up for the day.
Took apart the ball and gear on the broken downrigger and make it work on the other one.
After that the fog started lifting and the day as I stated ended up pretty good. All and all just another great day of fishing!!!

Question Re: East Lake reports?

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but are there decent spots on East Lake to just still fish some powerbait and have a good chance at a trout or two, or is it mostly a trolling lake?

We're traveling through there later this summer, camping and hiking mostly, and I was wondering if it may be cool to pitch a tent out there, toss out a line and then relax after hiking all day.

Thanks!

I think in any lake, you can still fish with powerbait....
Yes, many people in late summer sit with powerbait and catch rainbows pretty well.

There were people soaking powerbait and worms along the South shore at East Lake Campground. Lots of shore access there and they were catching Rainbows and a few small Browns. My son caught a few rainbows on his fly rod from the shore right at last light.

That looks like a Walker. I had one of those years ago. The gears stripped out on me when I hung a ball in some rocks. I never did like the bases very much, never saw a base break like that before.

Very nice fish!! Good job!! Can you long line and do alright up there? I don't have downriggers and mostly long line and cast lures, just wondering if that would work up there. Thanks and good job.

Hey Mike,

I noticed that big guy did the tell-tale big brown trout roll when he got near the boat. I hate it when they do that. At least you got him in! Great fish.

Ran up to East Saturday evening for a couple of hours brown fishing.
The weather was great windy and rain for hours.
Ended up with five browns for the evening. 18 to 23.5 inches.
It was a wonderful evening for catching browns. Not many boats.
East the the most colorful browns.

I think he did that on the initial hook-up. I thought I had that %&*#@ anchor rope AGAIN After a few seconds of dead weight, I started feeling the tell-tale head shakes When he came in he wasn't wrapped at all.
