Default Commercial Netters - Oregonian Article 3/5/03

Commercial Netters - Oregonian Article 3/5/03

Read the article ... and read between the lines ... it doesn't tell us how small a proportion of a commercial fisherman's income is derived from this fishery. It talks about the commercial value of the fish at about $1 million last year, but it doesn't give the full picture by including how much it cost the commercials to harvest that many fish. With the costs of nets, fuel and boat maintenance, I'd guess they didn't "net" (sorry for the double meaning) much profit at all. The article didn't reach the logical conclussion - it's time for this biologically harmful fishery with it's indiscriminate harvest methods to come to it's natural end.

It just broke my heart to read that the netters are being deprived of their fishery!!

Now if we can just shut them down for ever.
