The Light
My son is studying Hiroshima...
He wrote this. Click here.
I think it is well written, although he needs to do a little cleaning up.
Thought I would share.

Re: The Light
Your son is a pretty good writer; he paints a picture with the use of adjectives and adverbs that shows promise. You should be proud.

Re: The Light
It does need to be cleaned up a bit...but an otherwise nice piece of writing. Hopefully the world will never forget what happened that day, and just how wrong it was. Just makes me sad to think about it. :depressed:

I guess you're right, Geek. Just trying for a "teachable moment."

Re: The Light
With all due respect, skein, I don't think that David (cool name, btw) is trivializing the atrocities that happened to soldiers on all sides. It's been widely speculated that the thousands that died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved the lives of millions of others in continued war.
Rather, he is writing a piece based upon how he thinks that he would feel in such a situation. David certainly could gain some wonderful insight from reading additional information from various sides, and whose to say that he hasn't already?
With some work, this piece could be very good. I would also recommend that he read position pieces from many different sides of the bombings, if not in all debates that he enters. That's the only way to intelligently choose a sound opinion.

Re: The Light
Nice work.
Horrible as Hiroshima and Nagasaki were, those bombs saved millions of lives. There are those that will argue that we used atomic weapons on the Japanese because they're Asian and not white. I don't buy that for a second.
They brought it on themselves, as a result of their conduct during the war (and before the war, most notably in China).
But I hope it never happens again. :depressed:
