Default Gas prices out of hand?

WEll having been to europe and having paid $1.50 a LITER (This comes to $5.67 a gallon). I filled the car with plain old unleaded. This cam to more then $70 US dollars. I cant complain too much when I run down to the station and pay $1.69 a gallon.

Where are some places around the US or World you have been with MUCH higher fuel prices?

I expect to hear this a lot more as we as a nation learn to pay European prices for gas and diesel. I expect the prices to continue above $2.00 a gallon by summer and I don't expect that they will ever be much below that again.

BIG OIL is running this country and they expect to make a big profit at it.

I've paid over $3 a gallon on remote stretches of the Alcan. But that was 8 years ago. Hate to see what it is now.

Crabbait,

Although I wouldn't mind too much paying $2 for a gallon of gas, unfortunately the prices have started to drop already. And Mr. Bush will not allow that to happen, for it will affect his reelection bid. He'll probably attack a few more oil rich countries to ensure below $2 gas price

The main reason fuel is so expensive in Europe is due to taxation. Also their diesels get up to 50mpg and more due to their fuel delivery system that we have yet to adopt hmmm, i wonder why. I also think their diesel is more refined. Just my .02 cents.

I guess I can put GW's tax cut toward higher fuel prices........and come out on the losing end again. Hey, thanks George.

$2.17 is what I just paid to fill up with premium. The Chevron on Broadway and Jefferson Downtown Portland.

Actually it was a few days ago.

Bringing gas prices down would be easy. We just use the free-market approach. They know we can't just stop buying gas, but we can stop buying gas from a particular company. If we picked a company, say Texaco or Chevron, and refused to buy from them - and did so vocally - the price would drop within two weeks.

Trust me, that would work.

We could do what truck drivers in Europe do........when prices spike, they just go on strike for a couple-three days, and prices drop again, like magic!
Anybody seen the price of diesel fuel lately? 1.69 with a PUC?? Insane!!
There's gonna be a lot of owner-operators out of business very soon. :depressed:

Anybody else noticing all the late-model F-350s, 1-ton Dodge Rams, Excursions, Suburbans, etc. showing up "For Sale" in the classified ads? Those big gas-hog rigs are nice but they cost a lot to operate......and $2/gallon gas is cheap compared to what we could see in the future.

We have no God-given right to cheap gasoline.

Petroleum is a limited resource and we are going to run out. It can only get more and more expensive.

We should put more effort into developing alternative energy sources and public transportation, rather than trashing the Alaska wilderness and invading countries with oil reserves.

"How did OUR oil get under THEIR sand?"

The 1960 Merc-300 2-stroke outboard is never going to run on hydrogen :depressed:

a good deal of the reason why gas is so expensive is tax
.46cents of every gallon of diesel here is tax
if people would figure out how taxed we are we might have cheap goods..

We've all heard, "Actions Speak Louder than Words."

We only have to look to our driving habits and those [habits] of our fellow Americans on our roads and highways.

Until our behavior indicates that we are conserving fuel*, then I must say, "No, gas prices are not out of hand."

____
*Conserving: Driving slower, smaller vehicles, carpooling, etc.
