Default Float recomendation ?

Want to float /fish/camp for about 5-6 days ,week of June 22nd. Two guys and two kids ages 11 and 15. Thousands of miles drift boat exp. on Oly. Pen. and a couple hundred in raft with rowing frame in Alaska. But not looking for white water trip. Thinking about the John Day wondering what section might be the best fishing then? Would a drift boat be OK then or would we need to rent raft ?

Thanks, Larry

Default Re: Float recomendation ?

I haven't done it but am going to do short trips on the John Day this summer in a canoe with my son. Start at Kimberly to Spray, then Spray to Service Creek, Service Creek to Twickingham, Twickingham to Burnt Ranch the Burnt ranch to Clarno. I'm guessing that Kimberly to Clarno would be a good five days. Kimberly to Service Creek you follow the highway quite a bit. Sevrice Creek to Clarno you won't see much highway or even road.

Lot of guys do Clarno to Cottonwood Bridge. I understand it's 3 days and one small rapid, Clarno Rapid. Everyone I talked to said it's a great trip.
