Fished it Thurs-Sat..as reported by others..hot..hot ..hot. Largest about 20..average about 13-14...usually throw in at least one 17-20 in your daily bag...seem to catch the larger ones still fishing near weeds; but on the t roll like i was..also caught the biggies...frog flatfish is the key...worms seem to turn on about dinnertime...don't know why.

How was the bug hatch on the lake? I see the lodge is reporting a start of a hatch. Man they can get sooo bad and kill the fishing. Just my luck I'll be there all next week with a swarm of the little black things.

i usually run the midget ford fender flashers with about 3 ft of leader then attach my f3 frog flat fish, no weight just that, every now and then like in the afternoons the water can get choppy and i will add a cannon ball sinker to keep my flashers down, attach it right to the swivel that my flashers are hooked to but other then that in the morning and evenings no weight needed.

We just got back on Sunday and we absolutely crushed 'em...I mean..it was like when youre a kid!! Anyway...flatfish work great (perch scale was pretty damn good) and we used like 1/4 ounce egg sinker on 'em..I even caught a couple on a black tiny tad Green powerbait was...EPIC

I used a 1.5 oz ball ahead of ford fender...50' line gets you very close to bottom in 20' of water...got to stay in that depth to 25-30' ...if get shallower thant 20', are in the weeds if fishing close to bottom. As day wore on 60' line seemed to do trick. I am talking about trolling along the west shore just off campground...

I'll be there June 20-21, hoping to use the info I've seen here and catch a few fatties. I'll be in my 15' Smokercraft Alaskan.
Think I should call ahead and reserve a campsite ??

Default Just returned 6-3-09

Went for a few days with my father...

Fishing was hot/cold. We were still-fishing... powerbait (rainbow, chartreuse and red), 3-4 feet of leader, size ten egg sinker... pretty standard. First day, slow fishing off Thielson View CG, moved a little ways south toward the point near Thielson CG... started getting into fish. First a nice, fat 14"... Dad soon thereafter lands a 19"... the bigger fish were skinny for us though. Different spot patterns too... hmm. Eagle Creek bows? After two fish in 10 mins, the wind comes up and the sky opened up. We were in a 9' Sorenson, half way across the lake from the marina! Not fun. Hail and rain chased us off the lake for the night.

The next morning, we once again get skunked off Thielson CG (it was my $ hole last year!). After an hour of absolutely nothing, we head towards the cheese hole and instead of joining the crowds, head north along the shore about .3 miles or so. In about 25 ft of water we began to catch fish in less than 5 minutes of anchoring up. We had 2 doubles in the stretch, always had at least a fish on, and were at our limit of 5 apiece in just over an hour! Great fishing there. All were between 13"-15" and a hearty pound apiece, except for one 20" that I was fortunate to pull in. Though not as fat as the 18-19"s that I got last year, it was my longest trout from Diamond yet, and like the one the day prior, it was definitely a different strain of Rainbow from our smaller fish.

Today we fished early (6-9:30) and had not a bite in the Velveeta hole area. We decided we had more than enough trout for two (12 in the cooler) and packed it up to make the drive back home.

Another nice trip to Diamond. I will say, the fish we got into were smaller than last year (in my experience), although the experience was great nevertheless. With the stocking of only fingerlings now, I'd say we can expect more quality 12-15" 1 pounders and an occasional hog, versus the 15-17" 2lb boys we were swamped with last year.

Tight lines!
