Default Magic Lure Scores

Dug up a modified beetlespin from the bottom of my tackle box and tried it out today on the Willamette. Caught about 10, lost a couple more.

I love those spinners. Hook any jig on and go to town.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. I'll be trying this out right after the next time I find myself inside Fisherman's.

I won't give my age but beatle spins were the go to bait for smallies back in Illinois when I was growing up. We always seen to go back to the oldies. Nice pics.

I started out with 1/8 but the two I used got a little lighter as the paint eventually got banged off. I also used a purple lizzard-half successfully. The jig hook need to be bent back in place after a few struggles. I learned to keep my hook sharp from springer fishing. Next time I'll tie directly to the lure. The less harware the better.

I worked banks near running water mostly using an up down retrieve keeping near the bottom. Some times they would follow it to the boat.

Water temp was 64 and flow less than 20K cfs.

Sweet Mike!!! I see you like to bang the rocks too.
But.....ah.....is it my imagination or has that jig come unsnapped.
So you were running 1/8oz? Seems kinda light....pretty slow retrive I take it?
Spinning outfit or baitcaster?....maybe that's my issues w/ weight, I'm running a baitcaster and it maybe I'm just trying for too fast a retrieve. But I kida want a fairly fast retrieve as i believe they should have to make up their mind to bite NOW...not swim behind it and "think" about biting.
Reaction bite all the way.

Might have to try them on a spinning outfit though.

It look like you use the tail end of the lizard. Am I right?

You're right Mike, you have to retrieve slowly. I let it fall to the bottom several times during a rtetrieve. I've read that in the post spawn stage, the trick is to slow way down. I'm not much of a slower downer myself, and I found this lure forces me to conentrate on it.

Yep, the jig head fastener is undone. It came undone several times. Probably a sight pliers pinch would help. In spite of unfastening fasteners, bald headed jigs and bent hooks, it's worth every penny of the 49 cents I paid for it.

The jig is the back part of a small lizzard. I leave enough of the body (about 2/3) to help keep it from slipping off the jig head.
