Seems that unemployment benefits aren't as big as the paychecks used to be. :depressed:

I've checked with a few boat dealers and the news seems to be good. My son sells for Doug's Boats in the Seattle area and they can't keep metal boats in stock. Business has never been better. From the reports here on Ifish from dealers at the Sportsman's Shows in Seattle, Puyallup and Portland, the news is good everywhere.

Must be due to George Bush, eh?

I think it's pretty evident that he is a failure and not up to the challenges of the job.
He should have been his own man and not surrounded himself with people from his father's failed presidency.
The GOP should have chosen McCain.

Partly the economy/partly alot of things on Ifish are priced kind of high. I buy rods, reels, and alot of other stuff off ebay for a fair peice less.

Default Is it the economy?

I've been watching the forsale posts for awhile to see if there is anything worthwhile. Noticed many items with no reply and many with reply's that havn't sold.
Is the economy so bad people are not buying or are the prices asked too high in a down economy?
Nice boats and vehicles on the board for a long time.

Thumper: Do you think that the boats are being purchased with cash? I don't know for sure, but I'll bet that there are some pretty good low-interest loans available out there. If you would like, we can have some really interesting conversations about what affect there is on society when so many people are in hock up to their earballs, if not eyelobes.

Buying a $20K+ boat stimulates a small part of the economy, but at what price?

Hey Geek, you are preaching to the choir there. I drive a 16 ft. Jon boat. Ain't about to start the cycle over again.

What? That's unpossible. Only $20K+ jet sleds catch fish.

Stew - I like to voluntarily give my money at the gas pumps for my truck and boat while George is in office, which sounds better to me than the democrats just taking it in taxes and I get nothing in return since I dont apply for social programs like welfare etc...

Hey guys, I hear ya, but think about this:

My dad died when he was 55.
My wife's father died at 62 - the year he retired.
I'm better at making payments than I am at savin' money.
Life ain't no spectator sport.

The Book says, "How dies the wise man? As the fool." (don't remember the chapter/verse)

It's possible to be right - and wrong. I think we both are.

Folks that have secure jobs are still buying. Heck with intrest rates so low, now is a good time to buy a car or boat.

My Economics 101 is a little rusty but isnt the economy cyclical? People seem to forget that. Just because we go through a period of record growth for an extended period of time doesnt mean it will go on forever. If you thought it would, your living in the land of fairy tales.

Yeah, what Skein said. You only live once so I may as well enjoy it now. Same kind of thing happened when my grandfather retired. Spent the first two years of his retirement talking care of my grandmother before she died. :depressed:

The economy isn't all roses. I had what I thought was a stable job. I joined the ranks of the unemployed 2 weeks ago. Unemployment is a little less than 1/2 of what I was making. As a single income family, it's very tough. I didn't have any savings after the last layoff a year and a half ago so the social programs are a god send.

I am by no means a liberal, I sit somewhere toward the middle with mostly conservative views. But these programs do have merit. I won't be buying fishing gear anytime soon. I really can't afford to buy bait, but will do it because I need to fish

I'd definately say that the economy is contributing to the slow sales. Do I blame GWB? No, these problems were on the way long before he took office. The stock prices in the tech sector were so ungodly unrealistic they were due for quite the correction. I'm just hoping we've bottomed out. I can tell you that it doesn't look good, most high tech sectors aren't projected for any real growth until 2004.

In the meantime, I hope to find a new job soon, and use the time from now to then to catch some fish.

Ryan, sorry to hear about the job bro. That does stink. But more time for fishing means we should be seeing more of ol floppy ears holding fish.

Peace
