Re: A sad day in the neighborhood
Just yesterday my 3 year old was sitting on my 14 year old daughters lap watching Mr. Rogers. " I love Mr. Rogers Sissy", is what he said. Fred Rogers was a real and genuine person. Consistent in person as he was on his show. I grew up watching him and so are my kids. Going to miss the person but his shows will probably be on forever.

Re: A sad day in the neighborhood
Just the other day he was on TV asking for people to donate sweaters for kids.
There are very few good people in this world and now there is one less.

A sad day indeed! He had a very positive influence on kids and they are better for it.

Re: A sad day in the neighborhood
I just loved Mr. Rogers. I didn't, at first, because I thought it was all an act. It's not! The guy was really, really like that!
I remember an interview with Joan Rivers, and she was being her normal flippant self...
At the end of the interview, Mr. Rogers said to Ms. Rivers....
"You know, Joan... I love you, just the way you are!"

Re: A sad day in the neighborhood
I mentioned in another thread that I am not a singer (and I DEFINITELY am not). But one of my favorite things to experience was the smile on on my daughter's face that would form as I would wake her to me crooning "It's a beautiful day". I think she liked to start the day with the message.
Mr. Rogers got my son interested in science too.
His program was one of the few a lot of us felt good that the children were watching. Hopefully his reruns will play forever...

Re: A sad day in the neighborhood
Somebody asked one time what the chances were of selling syndicated TV on the idea of a quiet, unassuming man, wearing a cardigan sweater and a pair of tennis shoes hosting a children's show. The jist was that in this day of violent cartoons and fast-paced, bad-attitude animated "heroes," some guy humming "...would you be my neighbor" was absolutely ludicrous.
They were wrong. He was a giant to many, many of us - no matter how young or old we were.
There might just be one good thing about television: the ability to show endless reruns of Mr. Rogers.
I like what geek said: "He just moved to a nicer neighborhood."
