Human Shields

What do you guys and gals think of the americans acting as human shields in iraq? I believe protesting the war is one thing but then pulling this stunt which will probably get them killed crosses the line. Gen. franks said he will not be responsible for anything that happens to them. The news showed them leaving a bus in iraq today and i hate to generalize, but alot of them had dreds and tie dyes and looked like professoinal protesters. I know some of you will ask what i mean by pro. protesters but i think you know what im saying.

I think that when the First 1000 pounder drops within a 100 miles of them they will be packing up and calling for the US Army to come rescue them. I say you take your chances you pay the price make sure they know that and that they are on their own when the steel starts flying. If an American Pilot gets shot down because he had to pull off a target because of one of them long hairs chaining themselves to the roof of a T-72 then they should be charged with aiding the enemy in a time of war and banned from reentry to the USA or they should be locked up with old Johnny Jihad for 20 hard.

Funny thing is, when they get off the bus and head for the orphanage/church/school, Saddam will scoop them up and make them stand in front of the bunkers/airfields/weapon storage facilities.

I'm not for the current approach towards war, but if it comes to shooting, I think the correct course of action is to ignore the presence of the non-combatants, both Iraqi and external. If you allow the presense of the non-combatants to alter the attack plan, you reward the behavior and it becomes a tactic that will be used again and again in the future.

I feel their actions come close to treason. Protests within our borders is our right as americans, Protests outside ours borders in the setting such that members of our military may be put in harms way in order to save their butts or have to change their plans, perhaps further endangering their lives should be punishable. They should not be allowed back in the U.S. Their existence at those locations should be ignored.

Just offhand, I think anyone who wants to be a "shield" should expect to be hamburger.

I don't know what they expect to accomplish.
If they're willing to die for their principles, so be it. That just puts them in the same boat as Saddam loyalists.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">I agree. But civilized people do not site military targets under schools and hospitals in order to take advantage of the human shields therein. If I'm not mistaken that Geneva convention prohibits that as well. It also prohibits the use of gas.

I also think there is a considerable difference between avoiding killing innocents, and disregarding those who deliberately choose to put themselves in harms way.

Again, I'm not a fan of this war, but if you're going to fight, best to do it well. Besides, we left the moral high ground a long way back.

Lost Sailor, the person that organized this shield in Iraq is named Ken O'Kieff. I believe he is an ex-milatary with some sort of burr in his boot. Saw him on ABC last morning. Most of the folks that are getting off the busses are very strange looking and do have that Pro protestor look as someone else indicated.

They are in harms way and have been warned. If they think for one second that they are not then the realism of war will soon be upon them.

No quite the Johnny bin Laudins of the world but certainly not pro-american.

As I recall (correct me if I am wrong), if we go to war against Iraq, Congress will likely issue a Declaration of War (if one is not already in place against Iraq). At that point, the human shields officially become treasonous, by the statutes of the constitution they pled their allegiance to. This would make them subject to legal prosecution should they actually live to get out to Iraq. This also would apply to certain conditions of protest in the US.

My dad has a great saying for situations like this, "Natural Selection in Action".
