Don't get me wrong, I like humminbird's, but I would get a color unit! Even if you have to save up a little more money. Hands down color is where it is at!

There are a few different new color fishfinders on Ebay for less then $150.00 shipped right now check them out!

I have the Eagle 240, it includes a GPS (which gets you a speedo) and water temp. I have had it over 2.5 years and they are $100 at BiMart. I would buy another if it went out today. It isn't fancy but it does the job and a lot more for the price. The GPS, water temp, and speed come with the finder, they are not optional to buy later.

I have a hummingbird 565 that does everything I need it to do (about 200$)...
The one your looking at should be fine if thats all you can spend ...
I will upgrade someday when my 565 bites the dust , or I knock off the transducer on a sand bar ...
Good luck in your choice there are a lot out there , but some are better than others ...
Read all the reviews you can find on them before purchasing ...

Most "fish finders" in this price range used to be little more than depth meters but they aren't bad anymore. Ignore color in your price range, you'd be making a lot of compromises in order to get it and it's much harder to see in direct sunlight anyway. What counts is the number of verticle pixels the display has. The more the better. I'd pay for a built-in GPS before I'd pay for color.

The Eagle 240 is discontinued and most of them didn't have the internal GPS so be careful when buying. If I only had $150 I'd get either the Eagle 320 or the Humminbird 535.

If you can eek out $200 the Humminbird 565 is fantastic, giving you twice the verticle pixels (as many as the highest end color units) and a wide-beam transducer for only $50 more.

The speedwheels are worthless in my experience and need to be replaced often. GPS is far better for determining water speed unless you are going to fish a lot in high currents, but is well out of your price range unless you make major comprimises in your pixel count.

I prefer Humminbird to Eagle when in the lower $$ cost range.

Have owned both.

Wow, a thread I can actually answer!!!

I have two of those, one on the front, [trolling motor] and one on at the helm, I have had them for about three years and they have been flawless! The helm one I have hooked to GPS and it operates about like a hand held unit but does what I want it to do!

I'd by another in a heartbeat!

They have them on sale ocationally!!!!

My vote is to go for it!!!!

The 240 Eagle does include the GPS. It has been discontinued but I have recently seen it at BiMart for just under $100. Small screen but functional, the GPS is accurate, and I like the speed and water temp features plus having the time on the screen. Get what you pay for but in this case it's pretty good. BTW, I have owned a Hummingbird and have no qualms against them but I have put the 240 on two boats I have owned and never regretted it.
