Default How much $$$ will you donate to support Ifish

This poll is not about Ifish becoming a pay site but rather how much you will be donating during the upcoming fund raiser.

Thank you.

Thinking of all the information (and fun) I have recieved in just a few months from this community, I would say 60 bucks a year would be a fair price to donate.

Contribute whatever you think is fair for the benefits you have received. For me it is at least the cost of one guided fishing trip. Lordy, what would I do without Ifish?????

Fastwater,

It's an internet fact of life that it is extremely tough to make a go of a pay/subscriber website.

An interesting question to ask would be how many IFish members currently do a paid subscription to a website.

That will give you an idea of how many would likely do a paid subscription to Ifish.

My guess is that the answer to the question would be zero.

Advertising, product sales, accessories sales (hat, T's, etc.), online auction section with IFish getting a percent (a mini-ebay), those are typically how money making website do it.

Brion,

I will agree to the necessity of advertising and product promotion but I do not think (from what I have seen posted) that alone, it would cover the current and rising cost(s) for bandwidth and maintenance unless there was a shift in focus by Admin to aggressively seek revenues by those means to the extent that contributions from community members would not be needed. I would hazard to guess that things would get a lot more complicated that way.

With 3000+ member in our Community, of which I would guess 1000 are generally active to some extent in the last year, I wanted to help promote the upcoming fund raiser by allowing members to register a dollar amount that they plan to donate and see the level of contributions from others.

I absolutely love this board and I don't want to see any of the features changed or (diminished). Yes, as esfshnhnt has pointed out, those who donate funds will be doing so for the benefit of the entire community including those who don't contribute (lets not forget the amount of lurkers we have) but I am hoping that everyone can contribute even a small amount of $ during the fund raiser.

The problem isn't in bandwidth in what we are taking in, (ie files, pictures, server space, etc) but what we give out. Those do, in fact, effect our bandwidth, but only slightly.
The main problem is the info we give out that is causing a bandwidth problem. Broadcasting, per se.
The members who have registered and don't post are actually part of the problem. They read, same as people who arent even registered.
Everytime anyone, registered, or not, clicks on a thread, we give out info.
Lurkers access ifish, and read, and thus, we give out space to all that read.
According to Don, this is where our problems mainly lie.
It's really amazing how many people access ifish and read lots of threads, but never post or register.
It is a pretty good read!
Anyway, the above poll doesn't really make any difference to me, cuz I'm not going with a pay site.
I'm doing my annual donation drive, just like many other "free" sites do. You can give if you like, or not.
I hope that I may speak for some of the advertisers, who mostly do the banners for us, for "good will to the sportsmen".
If ifish has been good to you, help us out. If not, feel free to keep reading and enjoying ifish for free!
Seems like everyone has a theory on how to run ifish these days. It's all interesting, but the bottom line comes down to ... me.... OH SCARY!

Hmmmm....

I can see by my verbiage why some might consider the poll to be about a pay site.

That was/is not my intent.

Just trying to help drum up interest for donations.

I'm trying to work out a sale in the Portland aria.
I think there are people out there that has all kinds of stuff that could be donated.
I'm looking for a spot that would be big enough in hopes of a large turn out.
All money would be put up on a board for everyone to see. The only scary thought is
how much stuff would be left over.
I'm shure if people just didn't bring garbage
we could pass it on to the good will or something like that.
I know that the portland aria could pop up some good cash.
As long as we all know what is up I wouldn't have to post it as an ifish fund raiser.
Well as most know I can't spell but I can put on a sale.

In doing somthing like this would I be doing anything wrong????

I've been away from ifish for a few months and must be missing something. Was there a fund raiser? How do I send in a donation? This site has encouraged me to buy my dream boat and and fish with some great people in places I've never dreamed of.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!
