Talking Crescent 5/30 (pics)

Drove over to La Pine Friday afterwork to leave my RV there for the Summer, what an adventure that turned out to be. I was driving my RV and my son was in my truck behind pulling my boat. going up the pass the truck over heated and we had to pull over, glad we had our Rino's to talk back and forth with. Must of been the combination of A/C on hot day, incline and boat. Of course pulling over made the RV heat up. We finally got some water in the truck and I pulled the thermostat just incase, although it was wide open. We started up the hill and for some reason the RV died. I told my son in a semi-panic voice, push me up the hill to the next pull over spot and I tried to restart as we went. We were right before the tunnel, yeah, this is getting exciting now... NOT! Midway through the tunnel the RV fired up and took off. We made it to Crescent store and added new Antifreeze to my truck and headed to La Pine, seems like there always has to be something.

Headed out for some Koke's early Saturday, We launched at the day use ramp around 6:30 and headed to the cluster of boats East of the island. Lot's of folks out early. We started with 4/0 dodgers and hoochies at 30' but nothing was going on. Watching other boats netting fish and trusting the fish finder, we switched to Ford Fenders with a Green Wedding ring rigged with worm and corn 40 pulls out and no downrigger. BAM! let the fun begin! We started getting strikes and hook-ups! Took a little while to get into a groove, this only the second time on the lake. It was a beautiful day to fish, started out clear but there were some Boomers building up to the south.

Missed us by that much! ! We took out around 2:45 amidst thunder and darkening skies.
Mason with a future smoker in hand.

Here's another one from the box, this was after we had our limit and we started trolling for Mac's down at 80'. Have never fished for them so it was just a boat ride at that point, no hits. I'll have to do some ifish browsing to get a better idea on how to go after the big boys!

The Kokes have now transitioned from this.....

to this.....

Smoker is full and cooking away as I type. Can't wait for the eats! It was nice to get into some fish, GP has started slow, for me anyway. Good luck to everyone heading out!

Thanks for the report and pics, P44. Heading over there tomorrow PM. Looks like boomers all week but your pic of kokes in brine did me in. If I get struck by lightning...expect a call from my heirs' lawyer!

I too was there and did pretty well, at 30 pulls early and 35 after the sun was up. That cloud did not get over us soon enough to slow down the sun burn. Nice picture of that cloud, fun watching it build over us for hours.

I was there on Saturday afternoon and put in at 3:00pm as the lighting was flashing across the sky. The wind kicked up and I put out the rods as we cleared the island. Within 2 minutes we had fish on. My buddy who is older and much wiser but hasn't caught the Kokanee bug asked to go back to beach. After dropping him off I went back out and got beat up by the wind but caught my limit just as quick as I could get my line in the water. The best fishing I've had on the lake. The storm passed in no time at all and pretty quick the lake filled back up with Kokanee chasers.

My go to rig all weekend was and is the 3/0 UV Seps dodger with a 6" leader ( yes 6 inches) and an orange haze UV mini hoochies rigged with double hooks with a gulp maggot on each hook. I let out about 100 feet of line and just hung on.

Those are some nice Kokanee for Crescent.
