Smile Pudding River Canoe Question

I would like to take my canoe out into the Pudding River and do some warm water fishing, but I'm not totally sure where to launch from. Is this one where we would need to launch into the Willamette, paddle up to the Molalla, then paddle up to the Pudding? Or is there a better way?

I appreciate any info anyone can provide.

I have flloated the Pudding almost as far up as Mt Angel, which is a log infested nightmare in the upper reaches. From The Gun Club down (2d or 3d bridge up?), it's quite doable in the winter in an inflatable kayak, and I see drift boats and small john baots in there as well, so I would imagine a canoe is just fine. I think if you have a shuttle, you coould put in at 1-2 bridges up from the confluence and float down to the Willly--I think there is a prk, as I recall, where you can take out. It's not all that scenic, but still a fun and unique river. Not sure I ould eat those fish, as it drains Salem area and alot of nursery lands, farm lands.... The low fllows will look alot differrent than the winter flloows we have encounterd, but I would imagine that this time of yr it's not too low, as some of the tribs drain the foothills where the ground is still satuared with winter snow pack that is quickly melting. IF you are intersted in some are alternatives that may be more scenic, productive... try S Yamhill, maybe Luckiamute, . You may already know about them, and I am pretty sure you can get a canoe down the S Yammie all yr.

Yeah, we'd do C&R up there if we tried it. I'll look into the S Yamhill and Luckiamute! Thanks for the tips!

Tar Heel,

Have you ever floated the Luckiamute? Where did you put in and take out?

If you're interested I can give you another option of on floating Thomas Creek. There's enough water to float it in a kayak or an inflatable. I'm not sure if it's wide enough for a pontoon.

The "gun club" is on Whiskey Hill Road, just east of 91 School, easy to find on a map. Not a great place to park, but you can slide a canoe (or drift boat) in under the bridge. There is a take out (sort of) just above, like 10 feet, the railroad bridge on Anderson Road below the 99 bridge in Aurora. Or you can float down to Willamette River SP in Canby.
