Default Anyone with a Chevy 454 FI?

Thinking about buying a 1995 Chevy with a 454. Anyone have anything good bad or ugly to say about them?

Any info on gas milage would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I have the 454 in my 99 Chev Truck.. The engine is one of the best ever made. There is a draw back to it though. It gets between 8 and 10 miles a gallon. However I can load up the camper and boat and still get the same 8 to 10 miles a gallon.

Be careful on the fuel ecomony stuff. Some reports say that gas may reach $2.50 to $3.00 a gallon this summer. You won't be able to give it away if that happens. Good luck

Had a 95 3/4 ton extended cab with the 454. I agree with the 8-10 mpg posted earlier. Had to treat it nice to get the 10. Could pull a 28 foot travel trailer over the Hood at 70 though.

I have a '98 dually crewcab with this motor and love it. I tow a 28' fifth wheel and I am generally passing people even on the hills. Yes the gas mileage is not so good but if you want a heavy duty puller you have to pay for it. It is a very proven and reliable motor.

Andycoho!!! You can't REALLY be worried about gas mileage while shopping big block v8 engines. There is'nt one out there that will get any better mileage than you have heard already. Bottom line Large c.i.d. gas engines=horrible gas mileage. Just remember that a honda civic may have a 1.6L but that chev. has 7.4 and twice the cyls.!!!!
