A Frenchman invented modern canning, Nicholas Appert. Canning was later refined to allow canning of the Columbia Salmon, mostly spring Chinook at first, about 1865. In 1867, the Hapgood, Hume and Company packed 4,000 cases of 48 one pound cans. Canning peaked in 1883, with 630,000 cases. Than it level off, 400k to 500k. As the spring chinook declined, other salmon and steelhead were caned. For this reason alone, we can dislike the French! :tongue:

This is a cheap way to blame Bush's irrational and shortsighted foreign policies which the whole world disagrees with. Yeah, we are able to bribe or bully several other weak/puppet regimes along, but the vast majority of the free thinking people are against Bush.

Iraq's situation may be wrapped up soon, but people's memories and sentiments will go a long ways to come back and harm us.

I go back to LBJ on this one. " What about the dead" was his question after France told us to remove all our military men from their ground. We still have military bases in France! They will not be left out when this falls into place.
