Well done!!

I'm antsy for late Summer & the hexagenia hatch on Merrill.

Did you guys get hassled by the bald eagle that likes to swoop down & steal hooked fish?

The eagles we not as bad as two years ago. We did however get surprised by one as we were just getting the fish close to the boat. Such a majestic bird. He missed that one but we just sat in awe at the beauty and power.
We trolled wet flies with an electric motor while it lasted and then it was on the sticks.

One of these days I'll have to get the kid to pull the motors of the boat and make a weekend up there, it's a beautiful lake!

Just remember the limit is two fish 'under' 12 inches on Merrill!

That is great. I used to love that lake. Haven't fished it for several years. Are the evening Hexagenia hatches still like they used to be? That was the most awsome dry fly fishing. Big flies and the sounds of trout sucking them down.

Back in the day that Steelhead Slayer and I were both single, we spent easily a dozen days a year fishing Merrill. Years ago, trolling a woolie worm or bugger in black or dark green was dynamite. Doubles were common. For some reason, the last few years that I fished there, you couldn't buy a bite that way. In the spring when the water is high, a foam ant fished right up against the grass and willows works great. In the summer, all other fishing was just killing time waiting for the Hex hatch!!

I have had a cow elk swim within 20 feet of my canoe, came around the corner within a few feet of a nice buck in velvet, and watched a fawn playing just outside my tent at Merrill! Thanks for the pics. They bring back great memories. I'll have to make the effort to get up there again.

I have found the native fish to be smaller and smaller each yr.........I think the three otters living there have eaten a bunch of fish.

Those fish look bigger than 12 inches. Also, were you fly fishing or using bait? READ THE RULES. FLY FISHING ONLY. RELEASE ALL FISH OVER 12 INCHES.
