Default Diamond Lake

We made our first trip out to Diamond lake over the weekend. We got out on the water around 9 on sunday. For the first 2 hours we were fishing the north end and only managed two trout. We decided to head south, and started trolling for trout suspened in the deeper 40 - 50 foot water. The bite turned on instantly! We ended up going 18 for 21 in another 2 hours. Absolutely non-stop action with many doubles. For our first trip to Diamond, we were very impressed at the sheer volume of fish. Our smallest trout of the day was 12 inches, with the majority running 13 - 15. The largest was 18.5. A great memorial weekend. We will be returning to Diamond next year without a doubt!

Nice report, thanks for the info! I haven't fished Diamond in about 20 years and was wanting to get back there this year. I was hoping to take my 7 yr. old daughter with me, but she is deathly afraid of bugs. How was the bug situation? Any mosquitos, gnat, etc around?

Yeah, any comments on the bugs?

We're going there in late July for the first time and have heard some horror stories about the no-see-ems'.

Also, what was the water temp over the weekend?

Hard to say what the bugs will be like but i can tell you from experience that when they are out they are out in force.

Bugs are not the problem many make them out to be. If you are camping, the shade can be buggy (skeeters). Most of the bugs you'll see when fishing are midges and mayflies (with a few caddis thrown in). None of these bite. They can be a nuisance, but we never were really bothered last year and we went on July 5th which was very "buggy" by most peoples' reports.

It is an awesome place.

didnt see a single skeeter, gnat, or nosium. No bugs to be heard of at all. I would get out there now! There are ALOT of fish being caught, with pristine conditions. We didnt even have wind. Just a great day overall.

I dont think the water has warmed up enough for the no see ums or any of those bugs to hatch yet. Water temp was about 48 degrees on Saturday and there were no bugs on the water. If you are camping you will definitely get mosquitos in the shade though. I was within 20 miles of Diamond all weekend and there were mosquitos everywhere. I got bit quite a few times even with good bug spray. It was worth it though.....
