Default Gales Creek

I fished the lower part of Gales Creek today and was wondering what other methods of fishing are their besides throwing roostertails and panther martens. Do people throw bobber and jig like fishing for stealhead on the wilson? The fish I caught were 6 inch and under and am wanting to target the bigger fish that I think are deeper in the pools. I am always up for trying new ways that could possible land me some nice size trout.

Those little 6 inch or less fish are probably coho or steelhead fry. This creek has limited fish and less access. Try fishing the Wilson or even The Kilchis for those trout you so desire. Have a great time.

My family used to own the bottom 3 miles of Gales Creek. I used to fish it on a regular basis with great luck. The Sea Runs get huge in there but they won't be here for another month or so. The last couple of years odfw has been working on getting coho and steelhead back up to the headwaters, please do not harm the fry you are catching. I used to use buds spinners or small crawdad rapalas which would nail the sea runs. We used to catch them 20-25 inches sometimes but the last 5-8 years they have not been coming in the numbers they used to. When bait was allowed we would drift a nightcrawler with no weight through the riffles and do very well. Good luck and careful with all the private property. There used to be some huge Sea Runs in there but i havn't caught one over 18" in many years.
