Default Aluminum dulling

I have a few spots on my boat that have shinny areas where the old name was removed, I dont want to polish the entire boat but want to dull those 8"x20" areas so match the rest of the boat.

Any ideas?

use the least aggressive scotchbrite you can find... dull her down a little at a time. you will still see it a bit until it's weathered or you could do just do a quick overall buff job...not a full on polish

Use Sharkhide acid wash. Just apply with a rag to the bright spots to dull it down. Or you could do a complete acid wash of the boat to get a uniform 'dull' look.

What kind of acid wash?

I dont want to upkeep the boat with polishing the whole thing so I wanted to just make it uniform.

Thanks

Just clean the area with lacquer thinner, and let time oxidize the area. If you clean it with Sharkhide, it will turn the area milky white. Scotchbrite is just ridiculous, it just destroys the finish, and can not even be repaired.

ya...it's real tough to get out a 800 grit scratch...heck i can step down a 36 grit scratch to look flawless with a bit of elbow grease. I wouldn't give advice i haven't personally done a time or two we get out hard water spots all the time by this method..but ya..um thinner and time..hahahaha

just do like I did and have it wrapped in vinyl Brad does a great job. I couldn't quite get mine to blend well when I removed the old graphics and therefore went with a complete wrap vice just the stripe. Glad I did
