Default Connecting TR-1 Gold to GPS, Green & Shield wire?

I had a TR-1 installed last year and is working good. I just bought a new GPS (Lowrance HDS-7) with NMEA outputs and want to connect it to the TR-1.

The TR-1 Gold manual says, "Connect the NMEA out (+) to the red (+) and the NMEA out (-) to the white (-) conductors in the stub cable with the blue tip at the Sensor ball. You will need to strip some of the jacket from the blue tipped cable in order to get to the red and white conductors. 22 or 24 gage twisted pair wiring is recommended for connecting this circuit."

I did this using a twisted pair (only had 18 gauge) and connected them to the yellow (+) and blue (-) NMEA 1083 version 2 (RS-422) output wires of the GPS.

The question is the TR-1 manual does not mention the "green" wire or "shield" that is in the blue tipped stub wire at the sensor ball? Should these be connected to something? The GPS NMEA wires have two output, two input, and a shield.

Is there any special tricks or tips to calibrate and get the GPS to control the auto-pilot?

Thanks for any help.

You will need to hook Lowrance yellow to TR-1 red, and Lowrance bare silver shield wire to the TR-1 white. Do not use the green wire. You will also need to adjust the settings in the Lowrance so that Port 1 out is set up for NMEA output at 4800 baud. See my forum at the top of this page for these types of questions - I won't miss it and I will be able to answer faster!
