No dignity....
I went to a local lake near my house after work yesterday, as it's about time for the crappie to get active along a shallow, weedy shore that also features some downed trees.
This lake is very popular with shore anglers, who are really into the triploids that arrive by truck every spring. But this lake is -- very quietly -- a fabulous crappie and bluegill lake -- and not bad for largemouth bass.
Anyway, I parked, put on waders, rigged up the rod and walked down to the bank with my ancient float tube and flippers. I put on the flippers, climbed into the float tube -- one of the old U-boat models -- and started walking into the waters.
A little kid piped up: "Dad, he looks like a big duck!"
Gales of laughter from everyone.
I smiled and paddled away very, very quickly.
I never did find any crappie.....
