New member population forces DSL purchase...
..in order to wade through all of the new topic starters, moderator challengers, boat quizzers, packaging consumers, stereotyping labelers, polarized lens testers, and steelhead adult diaper wearers..
That's ok, its an internet-free country, and only 90% of the fisherman own a computer (or is it catch fish?)...

Dial up?
I sthat when your computer makes those funny noises like a fax machine?
Geez, I have not used that is over 5 years. You mean there are people who still do that?
WOW! Well, I guess there are people who still have rotary dial telephones too

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
Yeah SafetyChain, I still use dial up. I can't justify paying twice as much to get on line a bit faster.
Rotary phone? well as a matter of fact.....

It's okay. If that's the excuse that worked for you to get broadband then I'm cool with it. You can thank us later.

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
My wife and I went DSL a month ago...will NEVER go back. Got a router, we're both online at the same time, phone still works, etc. To make it better, we're both downloading music off the net as fast as we can find it. Burning CD's like mad....will never buy a CD again. That is my cost savings.
Oh yeah...have also downloaded the movie with 3 X's in a row (vin diesel, not an adult flick ), Blue Crush, Borne Identity, 8 Mile, and a couple other movies I'd like to see but wouldnt want to pay for. Quality isnt as good...but its free and didnt take long to download.
Ahhhh...technology.

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
Not only have I had DSL for over 5 years, I have WiFi so the kids can share the bandwidth without rewiring the house.
SMJ, I'll bet what I pay for DSL is not much more thau you do for dial-up. And I get 768k down/128up. Consistently tests at 650+

Who did you go with and how much did it cost for installation?

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
There is no "installation" for DSL. Just plug it in and go.
And yeah, it flies!! I was showing my wife after we first got it....I set up Blue Crush (movie...somewhere around 780MB) to download. Maybe 30 minutes later I had it. Average song is around 2 minutes, if that....for that stuff it depends on how fast the dude is on the other end of Kazaa...some songs are a matter of seconds...others 16 years if they are dial up (i abandon those).
Best part is....while I am getting my music and movies at blazing speeds, I can still use my phone.

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
I didn't actually get DSL, I've made a vow to wait until I can get it for $25 a month or less. I've just been surprised at the recent number of new members with fishing stories and the like, and thought some mild sarcasm might be in order. Its a good subject title, though, don't you think?

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
Lost Sailor...they'll have to hold it until its actually a crime for me to download it. If I were the one distributing it, I might be nervous...but not really. Its not a crime.
RIAA and movie execs have to find a way to prevent this sort of thing....which is why you dont see downloadable movies from Hollywood. Trust me....when they figure out how to do it, I will be EXTREMELY happy (seeing as how they'll probably be using technology from my company, thus pushing my options into the stratosphere).

Re: New member population forces DSL purchase...
DSL is a gotta have for me. Especially with two ( 16 & 13) kids in the house. IT ws simply a matter of another pone line or DSL. No way could I ever go back. Wired the house for 10bT a few years ago so I have had 3 computers sharing the DSL for a few years now and just ordered a wireless access point off e-bay for the laptop. Solved all sorts of issues witht he phone and sharing the connection............ Get if if it's available and you can afford it.
