If the knock changes with steering position it's likely u-joints. Outdrive needs to come off for inspection

Will it hurt to run her a bit before going to the shop or is this an immediate problem ????

if its only for a couple seconds it could be running dry until the oil pressure builds up, the straight 6 in my pickup will rattle and knock for a few seconds when I first start it up in the morning till it gets good oil pressure

don't think it is in the outdrive. more than likely a rod or main bearing. start the engine and start pulling plug wires one at a time. if the noise goes away when the plug wires are pulled you've found the problem!!

It could possible be a piston pin. I had a knocking in my motor as well and it was a piston pin that seized causing the piston to hit one side of the cylinder wall and scared it all up, now I have a motor that requires over $400 dollars of machine work, do not run at anything more than idle and get it looked at ASAP before it becomes terminal.

This could be your gimbal bearing on the back of the motor, front of the outdrive . My dads boat has this same combo and in 10 years we have replaced this bearing twice due to he moors his boat in saltwater. If this knock gets louder when u turn, good chance that could be it
