Default 5 Buck and 20 minutes to fix my Ford

Ok, some background, I have a 1992 Ford F250 diesel and I was the only person who could start it. After some encouragment from my wife, had to move the truck really early on an off day, I took it in to Thomasen to have them look at it. $2500 to replace the entire gas pedal, clutch and brake linkage. Ford descided plastic pieces would be a good idea in the linkage system and what the heck lets make sure they have to push the clutch through the firewall to engage the ignition safety switch.

So instead of the $2500 to replace a back system with a bad design, I instead replaced the plastic with a washer and cotter pin and moved the ignition safety switch forward using a couple hose washers. Well the re engineered system has been working great for about a year now.

I mention this because I would hate someone else to have to go through this same thing. So for about $5 in materials and 20 minutes I cured my biggest headache with my ford.

Great story..resourceful.

Reminds me of a time I was pheasant hunting in NH. On the way home, 30 miles out in the middle of nowhere, the fuel pump dies on my 72 bronco. With no chance of a ride, and 3 barking dogs I pulled the hose off the window washer resevior, rerouted it to the carb, and filled the resevior with gas...held the "washer" button on enough to keep the motor going and after flooding it 3 or 4 times, and starving it a few times too, made it home in no time...holding the washer button all the way on kept the truck cruising at 45 MPH once I hit the surface streets.

I was almost to the top of Lemhi Pass SW of Dillon Montana when the throttle cable on my '81 Bronco broke. Way out in middle of nowhere. I got a small stick and manually opened the throttle by twisting the linkage on the side of the carb and wedged the stick in to hold it open. The motor was revved up to about 3000-3500 rpm but I immediately jammed it into gear and on the flat, in 4th, it would do about 35 mph, enough get back to town where I waited 2 days for a new cable.
