Default fix my computer

Is anyone interested in coming to my house in Fairview/Gresham area and fixing my computer. It is getting more messed up by the hour. I think i have a virus, and it wont load the new virus software and everything says i need to shut off the restore system then restart, but the problem is i cant shut down without pushing the off button Or control alt delete. i have had enough of this and am taking it to the shop, but i thought i would check and see if there are any comp. geeks out there that want to come fix it for me in trade for a couple guided fishing trips with www.qualityfishingadventures.com

E mail me at madwizerd@cs.com
or call me at 503-665-8892

I have Windows me.

I was having trouble with my virus software so I shut it down, 2 days later I got an e mail from an I fisher and downloaded it, And nothing was there after downloading. Right after I did I read the fishing geek post about the virus that was being sent to I fishers. Not my day. After that things have been going real slow if at all. I run scan disc and it gets about 95%done and starts telling me that a hole bunch of files are missing or have errors. I cant shut down or restart using the start button It just asks if I want to wait or end task. never shuts down. In order to scan for the kelz virus or install the new Norton Anti-virus is tells me with windows m e I need to go in to turn off the system restore feature then restart. I shut the restore feature off but I can shut down without a double control alt delete or push the on/off switch but when I do either the restore setting will not save. So I cant run either virus proglam. Now , I see the comp. will not do a disc defrag or go online most of the time. I also cant open a lot of tasks like cd creator,my computer and others most of the time. I am at the end of my rope on what I can fix and am giving up. Any ideas? Free trips to the first person to fix it. Dan

I, too, have sent an email. However, what I would recommend would be that if you can get to a computer that has an up-to-date antivirus program with some empty floppy diskettes you can create some boot disks and a DOS virus scanner. Most antivirus programs call it something like a rescue disk set. If you can make one of those, then do that and then follow the instructions from there.

That COULD get you started. As for the rest...

Dan, Don't do that re-install/re-image just yet unless you're ready to lose all your data. Between TFG and I, we might be able to guide you through it. Take a note of those error messages you're getting. The names of the files that are corrupt or missing are often a strong clue as to which virus you might have. Do an internet earch on some of the key words in the message, like which specific files are corrupt or missing. Or if you can get to Symantec, McAfee, www.antivirus.com, and do a search on those file names. A lot of times, you'll find the answer there as well as the "fix". I helped a friend a few weeks ago this way and we had him up and running in short order. Good Luck.

Hi Madwizerd,
Sorry to hear about your computer being ill. Scrimmy gave you a good link with instructions on how to disinfect your virus. I went thru it once and it wasn't that easy buy I got thru it. If you want I can stop by after work to check on you. Let me know.

Wizard, in gresham is EastWind computers...corner of Powell and Burnside, by hillcrest sports. They do a great job at a very fair price. Everyone that i know who has gone there or had them come out has been very pleased. Good luck
