Default Fattie yellow perch and leaky waders....

Well, panfish -- in the form of big yellow perch hanging out on a 6-foot-deep weedbed -- diverted me once again from my goal of finding lots of smallmouth bass at Summit Lake near Olympia.

The perch ranged up to 12 inches long, which is a fattie in my world. The fish were silly for a size 10 olive woolly bugger fished on a sinking line. I would have probably stayed there until dark, but my waders popped a pretty big leak.

More on my blog....

a mess of 12" perch makes for some fine eating. Lucky you, CHester.

I love a good perch fry. When I was going to school in E. Washington, my friend's grandpa would take us fishing for crappies, perch or walleyes depending on what was available. He'd bring along an out-door deep fryer and some home-maid hushpuppies. That was a great time. Probably contributed to my ever-expanding waist line.

Leaky waders are no fun.
