Default Evinrude 150 Ocean Pro economy

Hey does anybody have experience with the Evinrude 150hp Ocean Pro Outboard? I hear they are gas guzzlers, 12-15gph? Has it got to do with the Stainless Steel construction or is it the size of the boat? That's a lot of gas and oil to be mixing if it burns it up that fast. The one I'm looking at is on an 89 Trophy 21' soft top. Any responses would be appreciated.
Thanks D

Every 150HP, 60degree V-block OMC from the early to mid 90's that I was associated with was a fuel HOG! Both gas and oil. Not sure about a difference between an Ocean Series, but if they're like the Merc's a few more components are SS and that's the only real difference.

I have that engine on my 21 striper and at cruise with a light load I burn between 9 and 11 gph.WOT 15 gph.
I should add that it has been very dependable.

The biggest problem with this set up is that the boat is underpowered and you will have to run the snot out of it to acheive the performance you desire! A 200 would actually get better fuel milage than the 150 because you could back off the throttle a bit at cruising speeds!

I am dealing with a motor that is currently not running and I just purchased it for a song. Couldn't pass a deal up like this. Anyway, with my old boat, I went to a stainless prop and I can't tell you the difference that made! I'm thinking that would help with this boat too once I get the damn thing running. ha!@ It's got an ignition problem I'm chasing down but won't be long before I get that ironed out. Thanks for your comment.
