Question- 8 track players?
Ok , stop laughing, I have a serious question. My grandpa has a stack of 8 track tapes about 3 feet tall and no 8 track tape player that works any more. He bought one last year out of the paper, but after cleaning the heads, it now plays 2 songs at a time  I want to get him one that is of very good quality. I have checked ebay, but without knowing a good make from a bad one, I am at a lose trying to find one. Any information would be really great. Besides reading old westerns, listening to his 8 tracks is one of his favorite things to do. Thanks

Re: Question- 8 track players?
Scott,
You may be sitting on a gold mine!
People who restore old cars like to have the media for the era the car was from.
I thinh RCA used to be the "kind."

Re: Question- 8 track players?
Sounds like a head adjustment on the player that plays 2 tracks at once is in order.
Might be an easy fix.... Most 8 track players were built like tanks, but the tapes themselves were designed to self destruct.

Re: Question- 8 track players?
I'm with Leroy, I am betting you could adjust the heads or have them adjusted.
I remember messing with mine a lot.
It seems that RCA was considered a good one as Krue says but like Keta said, none were really great.
I had a four track first, then the 8 was cutting edge!
Good for you for thinking of your Granddad in that way.

Re: Question- 8 track players?
Crossroads Records on SE Hawthorne has a good selection of used 8 Track players. They are located at about 35th and Hawthorne right next to Artichoke Music near Taco Del Mar.

Re: Question- 8 track players?
Its a Meritron, and I believe martantz made 'em.
I purchased a matching turn table for an old Pioneer system from this guy a while ago, hes fair, and was no less than 100% honest.
My system had every possible thing you can imagine, 8 track, reel to reel, turntable, 4 seperate amps, tuner, Eq, DBX noise filter and 4 of those ole gigantic speakers with the 18 inch woofers.
My garage burned and took with it the stereo and a treasure of vintage 8 tracks, luckily, I only had a dozen or so albums in there, the rest were in the house, I did lose a rare "who picture disk and a beatles original green "apple records" album, those two were more valuable than the damn garage!
This guy offers a 90 day warranty, not often you see this in such vintage equippment.
Good luck
