Angry in Aloha:
Got my Toyota 4runner stolen Wednesday night and just got it back 1:00 this
morning. I was lucky only about 500 bucks worth of damage. Cops said they
are running ragged trying to keep up with the reports of stolen vehicles in the
Beaverton/Hillsboro area. Over 100 vehicles have been stolen in the last 15
days. Turns out the older 4runners are real easy to steal. Looks like the wife
will be driving the Tahoe to work from now on. In the past 6yrs I have had
stolen from me :
1. 2 sets of ski poles ($60.00)
2. 1 1999 Yamaha Banshee (was insured, but cost me $1000.00 to replace)
3. 1 Mongoose 21 spd Bike ($250.00)
4. 1 Home CD player ($200.00)
5. Toyota 4runner (repair costs $500.00)
6. 1 Home VCR ($100.00)
7. Approximately $100.00 worth of personal
items from 3 car break ins.
8. 1 crab pot fully rigged ($115.00)
9. 2 trout poles with reels ($175.00)
I am so sick of this but am at a lost as to what I can do about it. I keep being told that
this type of thing is something "WE" just have to live with. I cant sit on my porch in a lawn chair with a shotgun in my lap at nights watching over my stuff. I'm to the point now that if I was to see someone breaking into my car or garage etc. I think I could do
some serious injury to the perp and I MEAN SERIOUS. So lets hear about what has been taken from you. I dont think I am the only one with this kind of luck. Misery loves
company, lets hear some stories.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
Pretty sad state of affairs to have to worry about theft all the time. Get a mean dog, of course that causes another slew of problems. Motion lights, fake or real cameras, claymores with lazer trip lines . There is only so much a guy can do. I have been lucky so far here in Milwaukie. I believe most of these type of thefts are from neighbors or friends of neighbors. They know your toy collection and your schedules better than most. Something to think about.

TUNDRA~~
What part of Aloha do you live in? I live in Aloha also and have heard of a few incedent's in my neighborhood but not many...
Sorry to hear about your truck, I would be so very !!
Had a truck stole off of Cornell road when I lived over by Sunset HS and by the time they found the truck about 5 months later it was at some rock pit out in Banks and when we went to go look at it the darn thing looked like it had been sitting in the tow yard for 5 years..

Like I said in a post on the hunting forum: "The only thing necessary for evil to win is for good men to do nothing." (Or be encouraged to do nothing)
I don't have an answer, but if I lived in Aloha (not likely after hearing your stories) I would damn sure be looking for one.
I also realize that's easy for me to say - much harder to do. I am truly and sincerely sorry that any of you have had items stolen and destroyed.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
I too lost a older 4-runner (87) in Aloha 4 years ago. It was recovered in Albany with parts from another stolen 4-runner on it . It was stolen by a group of, I can't say what I want. It was stagged to go to Cal/Mexico. Some units actyually go south further. I got lucky, in Albany every 4-runner gets its plate run in the evening when parked at the local hotels.
My truck had plates from a newer 4-runner and the officer knew the difference between the years.
It is correct tha the older 4-runners are easy to steel. Park it in the garage if you have one or use a club, alarm, dog or other.
This really bites, Aloha is great plae to live.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
From what the local and Albany police say Aloha and Beaverton is a target area. The bad guys travel here to do their dirty work.
It is like a dog will not soil his bed/house or neighborhood.
This is not the country anymore, were part of the big city.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
Tundra,
I too live in Aloha and had my vehicles broken into numerous times. I went out and bought a cheap $150.00 alarm, (Easy to install your self) and have not had one problem since then,(at least three years now).
It could be the blinking dash LED light that makes them realise it's alarmed because they still hit some of the other neighbors cars here and there. It was well worth the $150.00 and was less than the deductable when you make an insurance claim !!!
It is something to consider.........

Re: Angry in Aloha:
Whats strange is I live in downtown Portland and park my car on the street every night. I have never had a problem in two years with my current car downtown.
Someone did break my window on the North Fork Santiam, and I chased some punk away out at the Fred Meyers on 158th. There was another time when I watched some guy hovering over my car at Beaverton Fred Meyers. I yelled when I was about fifty yards away and they guy took off running. So it looks like Beaveron/Aloha are hot spots for scum looking to take your stuff.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
Looks like I need to clarify my original post. Not all of the items I listed were stolen from my home in Aloha. I've lived all over the Portland Metro area and I've had problems everywhere except when I lived in a very bad neighborhood in Kiezer. The
area I lived in Kiezer was really bad but no one ever bothered me there. I have lived in Aloha for 3 yrs now (201st and Southview off of 198th). The only problems I've had is a couple of car break ins and a mail box break in. My truck was stolen from the Stanfords Restaurant parking lot, which according to the local police, is a hot area for car thieves right now. The restaurant is located in the Tanasbourne area for those familiar with Hillsboro/Beaverton. The police have taken reports of over 125 vehicles stolen in this area in the last month. I love the Aloha area and am very happy living there.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
I am also mad....they are going to steal your mail and they are going to steal your autos....
and it is just not Beaverton....
I posted this before.....two checks cashed at the Beaverton K-Mart and the Tualatin K-Mart
and the police Beav/Tualatin won't even take
a report. Lazy checking at those two stores.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
I live just south of Farmington between 179th & 185th. Been ripped off three times since we moved here in 1989. You really feel violated! Not near as violated as the scum would be if I caught them.
First time(1990), they got in through a bedroom window. got one handgun, reloading scale, boom box, CD's, and a VCR.
Second time(1994), they got the CD changer and cell phone from the truck. The whole neighborhood got hit. About 20 vehicles.
Last time (December), they got into the garage and got my tackle box, three rods/reels, and my leaky waders. If you see a guy peeling off a set of XXL waders and has a grapefruit sized wet spot on his left knee, let me know.
Make sure you have a good home inventory. Sure makes insurance claims easier. Walk around the house with a camera or video cam. Sure helps you remember things that may have been taken. Keep good records of anything valuable.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
I think that the robbers have figured out that the people who live in hillsboro can afford good enough insurance to replace all the items you have had stolen, .....NOT!!!
I'm just glad I live in little Milwaukie, man. Here I can leave my carport completely open w/rods and fishing and crabbing gear and boat w/motors sitting in there and nothing gets stolen.
Of course you have to get through the gauntlet before you can get into the carport, (because of all the junk I have in front)
Kind of reminds me of Gizmo's garage.

Re: Angry in Aloha:
One more for my list above-
Went out this AM to get the paper and the liftgate to my canopy is wide open (doesn't lock) and my little green work cooler is gone! Along with 4 cans of Mt Dew! Whoever it was didn't bother with all my chemical spill gear back there. Maybe next time.
Hey fishchaser, I wouldn't get too relaxed in Milwacky. I ran an auto parts store down there for a few years and one of my delivery trucks got ripped off on Xmas Eve. Got it back a week later. Someone also tried to kick the front door in and set the alarm off. And one of my employees parked her K5 in the lot overnight and got her power amp jacked. And I had to replace the mailbox about every other week. I would constantly find evidence of prowlers around the building whenever I looked. The previous owners of the business said they had similar problems. It happens everywhere.
